the best advice you'll get is to get k&n drop in filters for the stock boxes. from what i've read all cold air/short ram/ and pop chargers just give a different sounds and a loss in power.

One reason I want them is for the sound, but If they actually cause a loss of power I might have to rethink it. Thanks for the info.

Is the pop charger just the filter? or the whole intake?
Thanks

Whole intake, besides the ducts that go into the throttle bodies. I have them too, they sound amazing. Dont listen to people when they say they cause a loss of power. If the gains are unoticable, then so is the loss. Food for thought.

The Z intakes are already made for performace. K&N drop ins are $160-$180 anyway. You might as well spend a little more... Its pretty much the same result, but the intakes give a deep sound, have a little more whine, and clean the engine bay up nice.

I don't know where you seen a drop in k&n for 160 but they're 69.00 directly from k&n.

K&N filters suck at filtering. I had one on my M3 and when I had the intake system (plenum and throttle bodies) apart after maybe 5K miles, it was full of grit. I'm in S. Florida, and it's dusty here. Lesson learned. All their other marketing-speak is pure bullsh!t, too, especially the part about straightening the air flow. Never saw a single speck of dust after the first 40K miles with stock paper-type filters.

Nothing wrong with the OEM HR intake. I routinely use NAPA Gold air filters in my '08, and the intake is squeaky-clean at 52K.

Primary function of any air filtering system is to keep dirt out. The fact that filters are dirty, show that they are working well. All filters need cleaning and some need replacement.
