Now,.. two things:

1) Is this a different exhaust? IE: Non "S-Tune" and therefore is nothing what I'm looking for?

2) If it's the right piece,.. what else do I need to look for to make a complete set?

If it's real, it's going for $90 and is an hour to hour and a half drive..

Thanks

that is from a 370, the ones on the 350 are single in dual out

Odd.. he said it came off a 350z.. he personally took it off. but I'm sure he could/is mistaken.

The way it looks it looks unlike the Nismo S tune's anyway.. and if it is Nismo it's a different Nismo .. the seams and finish just look off right away.

I did find a Nismo S tune (out in california) that's a little banged up from the car being lowered.. for $550 -- That looks promising if I can get the price down a little where perhaps Exhaust + shipping is about $500-$550. It does have scratches and such due to the car being slammed.

What do you think shipping would be? I've done some homework and people say it's about $40 to ship ground.. but, I know if you don't pack it right, etc you can end up spending $100 on shipping an item that if done right would be $40-50.

If I go with this used, scratched up Nismo S tune I found.. (I don't care about scratches as long as the Tips are in good shape).. any tips/advice on how to tell this girl how to pack it up to be the cheapest to ship?

Or other tips on just how to properly pack an exhaust system.. it can't be easy to pack up such a large item.

This might be the one.. price is certainly int he ball park.

Regardless to what the seller say, that muffler looks like it came off of a nismo 370z, therefore the seller is calling it a nismo muffler. What I learn from this forum is you can't trust what everyone say, gotta do your research homie.

No, that muffler isn't worth $90 bux plus an hr and a half drive to pick it up, forget it, my 2 cent... but don't let my opinion affect your decision.

Oh from the look of the Muffler, it doesn't look anything like an S tune Nismo,.. so I wouldn't buy it anyways.. The craftmanship looks terrible.

If it WERE a Nismo S tune off a 350z , even if just the muffler with tips.. it would definitely be worth $90 (to me).

I found a Nismo exhaust on facebook,.. the girl wants $550.. I was the first to contact her.. and said give me a price shipped and I'm in... but she didn't contact me back ,.. but some other guy posted he sold his "used" Nismo Exhaust for $1000, so she commented to that asking him where? lol.

Used scratched up Nismo Exhaust isn't worth a grand .. I'm sorry. Someone can push one not banged up for $700 give or take.. but you get to a grand, and you aren't far off from new imho.

I think $550 is a fair price for a "cosmetically" rough exhaust,.. I told her that if the tips were not banged up I'm a buyer. Although I think she might be trying to get more money than her initial posted offer of $550 now, we'll see.

I'll find the exhaust whatever it ends up being in time,.. I don't like dealing with people who start jacking up the price after they already offer it at X price,.. though I haven't been contacted that it's higher now,.. just a suspicion. She may just not care much about selling it with any speed as at least two people have posted their cell numbers including myself.

I don't see the Nismo S tune that was posted a week ago however, Maybe it sold.

Found another S tune out in California,.. contacted them via Cell text and am waiting on a price including shipping today (Wednesday).

What's changing a Factory Exhaust on a 2008 HR motor to something like the Nismo S tune add to horsepower anyway? Like 2-4 hp?

Just some FYI's, to help with getting a used S-Tune, which remains my favorite, BTW. First, here are a few pics of the tips, to help identify the real item:

Second, if you get just the muffler, it will not bolt up to the original mid-pipe, because the input to the S-Tune is shorter and curved differently. So, you'd have to make an adapter, which I did, before I found a a used S-Tune mid-pipe to match the used S-Tune muffler I found by itself initially:

Honestly, I could not tell any difference, either in sound or performance, when getting the proper S-Tune mid-pipe, although I have never used the S-Tune Y-pipe. My car is an HR, which reportedly has a pretty good Y-pipe, so the results might be different with a DE.

Dean,

Great info .. much appreciated.

I'm waiting on two possible Nismo used systems.. but one seems to be ignoring me for whatever reason, I don't think they know how ready I am to buy it. Shrug. The other said they would get back to me today with price on shipping across country.

The muffler I pictured I'm about 99.9999 percent sure is not a Nismo S tune Muffler for a 350z.. it just doesn't remotely look the same in so many areas.

Let me ask you guys about the Nismo tips,.. I've been curious about them.

They seem smaller than stock.. Is that just my eyes?

Do they look noticeably worse in person due to their smaller size? I've wondered about the size of the tips since I first saw the exhaust.

Ah,.. I see, 370 has true dual from factory.. Still never figured out why the 350 doesn't have true dual from factory.. I guess to save space/money.

Oh well, I wasn't buying it anyways,.. it was just advertised as Nismo,.. if so, a stock Nismo muffler/exhaust.

The tips are a bit larger than OEM, and believe it or not, slightly oval-shaped:

The OEM Nismo exhaust tips are larger, and also have a thin single-wall construction, so the larger size appears exaggerated. IMO, the S-Tune tips look just right with the OEM rear bumper.

Ah, no kidding? I thought , obviously, that they were just a hair smaller.. They still looked fine either way. Seems the Nismo S Tune is the most popular exhaust for people who don't want stupid loud. May prove to be difficult to acquire.

Here's a question/challenge for everyone... My budget is preferably $500 + shipping. If I were to find a Nismo Shipped for $650.. I wouldn't say no.

That said.

I'll list some basic must have's/have nots.. and then let's see if anything is out there NEW (eliminates waiting until A week, A month, 3 months, etc..) (I've been looking for over a week now.. Guess I'm getting a touch impatient.. but I have a good few weeks left before I'll pull the hammer stupidly on a non Nismo S tune..

Must have's/and have not's essentially qualities of exhaust.

First my car is Stock aside from Two K and N up front.. (which is, well, stock ).. It's a 2008 HR motor.

Ok..

1) Needs to be quiet. (Obviously louder than stock, especially when putting some power to it.. or it's pointless..) -- But Nismo(ish) quiet.. 1dB up or down won't break anything. However, 3dB's up might.. cause every 3dB's you just about double the perceived "volume".

2) Absolutely cannot drone with normal driving in city or highway.

3) And of course fantastic "pitch"/deepness throughout the RPM range without Rasp, etc..

I'll leave it at that.

Can it be found ? A catback exhaust for 2008 350Z .. NEW or USED right now.. for let's say shipped $650-$700 (700 is already pushing it for me.. but I know these things aren't cheap new or used.. I've been looking and watching and getting advice for some time now.

If you do find something that meets those "fairly" reasonable requirements.. NEW or USED,.. please respond.

I'm not trying to be annoying here.. just while I'm still hunting a Nismo S tune.. I have , oh.. maybe 6 exhausts besides it that I've been listening to in clips, pricing, etc.. If something that would suit my needs as well ( or dang close).. new, or even used in my pricerange I may pull the trigger on it.

There just may not be an exhaust system"WORTH" buying new or used for a 350Z for under $750-$2 grand or so. But if there is one that fits those 3 criteria ( plus tight budget), I know you guys can help link it up.

If you don't want to bother.. I don't blame you

Thanks for the vast help so far.

Update to Exhaust hunt:

I have TWO used Nismo S Tune exhausts that I found listed.. both in California. I told one guy I was buying and just needed him to check on shipping then I'd send the moeny paypal , etc. I texted him back tonight, and he said..

"Yeah I forgot to text you. I'm sorry but the shipping was going to be 80 dollars because they didn't have a long box for the mid pipe so I felt like it was too much and some guy bought it yesterday. Sorry about that."

Maybe I'm trying to be told something?

Well -- Now both Exhausts I made offers on were sold to someone else.

No more Nismo S tune's out there now (that I can find).

Could really use you guys help if you can find a Nismo S Tune out there for me?

This is proving tougher than I thought.

Thanks

Just thought about this. I'm after sound really.. and retaining stock sound while not being stupid loud.

What about having an exhaust shop just do a muffler delete on my stock exhaust?

This is a clip of just that:

It's hard to tell just how loud that is in reality. If a muffler delete is stupid loud then I wouldn't do it. But this obviously keeps the VQ35HR sound, and imo, sounds fantastic. Probably wouldn't cost more than $200-$300 in a shop surely.

My intuition/gut feeling tells me a muffler delete is going to be too loud and probably drone. So, I'm not sure if this has been done.. but what about throwing a Vibrant 1792 resonator on a muffler delete around where the muffler was? Would that tune out the drone, and negative effects of the delete? Hrmm.. Even with the Resonator I'm looking at $100-$300 labor.
