Default Custom 3" Intakes on VQ35HR project....

So as some of you know.. I figured I would do a little testing and see what results/gains some 3" intakes yield me. A few of my DE buddies have a 3.5-4" intake and saw really nice gains (yes, even with the stock throttle bodies), and were telling me I need to do this for the HR.

First off, here are the details on my car currently.

-2008 Base 6MT, 67k miles currently.
-Stillen Gen2 Intakes
-Berk Test Pipes
-Stillen Y Pipe
-Agency Power Single
-ACT HD Clutch
-ACT Streetlite Flywheel
-UpRev Tuned by CIN Motorsports (303whp and 272 ft lbs on their Mustang Dyno)

Here are some of the parts I am going to use:

Blox Filter with 3" V Stack, which will connect to a 3" silicone hose, which will connect to a 4-5" long aluminum pipe, which will connect to the 45 degree reducer to the throttle body. I am having the guys at CIN Motorsports fab me up the intake pipes. They'll be welding on a MAF slot and a small tube for the PCV system on each intake pipe. They will also be doing the tuning.

As for heatshields / airboxes, I am going to try and cut up the Stillen boxes to work with these, if they will not budge, I'll figure something out. I like the Takeda intake heatshield design where it seals when the hood closes... but my priority now is getting the intakes made, installed, and getting the car tuned.

Yes, for now.. the DE guys I spoke with who have done a similar intake stuck with the stock throttle body at first and still saw very nice gains.

3 of the guys that did the DE intakes are on this forum. (Juicinjake) (2bad240) and (SurraTT)... hopefully i spelled all the usernames right. but feel free to shoot them a message and I'm sure they will show you the gains. they may even chime into this thread lol.

and yes, just kinda seeing where this goes. i'd like to do tomei cams and longtube headers by the end of the year but who knows.. taking it one step at a time.

In for results. I wonder what 3" longtubes would yield?

Is there a specific reason you're sticking with the short ram design?

Why not mount them in the same location as Injen/Stillens long tube since you're going custom anyway?

Myself & the guys at @ CIN are firm believers that short rams WITH AN EFFICIENT AIR BOX OR HEAT SHIELD, outperform longtubes. Also the guys I mentioned earlier who had done the same with their DE, did shortram as well.

if you have the UpRev cable i'd be interested in seeing pre/post intake tempatures and HP/TQ results (if you plan on getting re-tuned)

i've been tempted to switching back to a short ram system when i get to tampa but i love my Injen long tubes (even if i have to remove the bumper to change filters ).

You gona rock the titek intake ducts with the tubes? And maybe using amsoil filters? I've heard nothing but good things. The ones with the recess on the front bit, like the Jim wolf filter, it adds something like 40% surface area.

Well the car won't run correctly without a re-tune. So definitely getting it re-tuned! I will see what I can do on that info when the time comes.

I've looked into the bumper ducts.. just not enough evidence that they actually do anything lol. Enough air already enters the grill area and goes right up into the rad. support ducts.
