Default Kinetix Hi-Flow Cats - Dynos

just want to start off by saying this was a bee-atch! This dyno graph thing will not print to a file so I had to fax it to myself, scan it, take it into photoshop to make it small enough for the web and then save it to disk. pain in the ****....

If they come out bad, which I know they will, i will be happy to take suggestions to make it better.

runs one and two - baselines with the second being better than the first. Remember, my baselines include hybrid pop charger/injen full CAI, UR Pulleys, grounding kit and Borla TD...

run 1 = 243.9 rwhp and 238.9 torque (which would not print out!)
run 2 = 248.9 " " and 243.9 " "

runs three and four in the am (around 9:00) where supposed to be the only ones for the cats (because after the cats I was going to do the plenum) but because the plenum did not work and I paid for 4 runs i took it back in around 11;45 for two more runs which turned out to be better!

runs 3, 4, 5, + 6 are now everything + the cats from kinetix.

3 - 246.8 rwhp & 241.7
4 - 248.3 ........ & 246.9 (these two were at approx. 9;00am)
5 - 246.4.........& 241.8
6 - 253.4.........& 247.0 (these two were at approx 11;45am)

better numbers came on the second runs of all!

and finally a combination of run 2 (best baseline) and run 6 (best with Kinetix hi-flow cats)

You guys can now all be the judges!

FYI - I did this all because
1) I am looking for more NA horsepower and torque
2) It got me high on the list (actually the top ) for the plenum
3) the ability to give everyone an honest, unbiased dyno on the cats and plenum (soon to come) of Kinetix product.
and
4) a pretty good discount on both! ;D

If you disbelieve, oh well, not much I can do about that, if you have questions I'll be happy to answer them.

Let the flames begin.....

How does the car feel/sound? Were you happy with the gain?

Did you happen to get Air Fuel ratio #'s? I'm concerned that the pipes MIGHT overly lean out the top end.

thats a good gain considering you already have intake+exhaust mods, and as well all know, mods don't add up all together as they would seperately. Did you install them yourself or did you have them installed for you? Either how hard was it to install, or how much were you charged? Thanks.

did it myself on jack stands. less than 3 hours total. fairly easy but you need an extension for the ratchet that would be 16-18" long to get one bolt off. All the others are easy.

you cannot hear it unless you punch it and then you definitely do. it is louder than the borla and changes the sound some, it is still something I am getting used to.

its a little gravel-ie in the low rpm range but seems to be getting much better as I have been driving it.

overall, I like em but miss the "just borla exhaust" sound that i thought was kind of exotic!

First, let me thank you for doing this. I know it was not easy.

I would have thought that cats would give better results. Maybe 10-15 rwhp, with or without the Borla. From my understanding, they are a major bottleneck on the Z. So, openning that bottleneck even with the Borla would result is some strong gains. 8 rwhp just does not seem like that much, especially when you consider the typical dynojet accuracy of +/- 5 rwhp.

At any rate, I will certainly have to rethink this mod. It is a great mod, but I want to make sure I spend my money on the best high-flows and not just the least expensive.

thanks again.

I think it was a very honest and fair review.

He posted every single run he made on the dyno, and I am very satisfied with the gains.

I think 10-15 hp would be an amazing achievement for just cats.

We will also be looking to do before and after dynos on a stock Z as well for comparison.

Thanks all-bark.

I still think we should do a large test pipe, high flow cat, pipe/resonator shootout between all manufacturers. Not because I think mine are better, but I think they might all be very close in gains.

I am still open to lending products out for this type of comparison, it would be great because comparisons like that are rearely ever done unless by a magazine.

LSD,

Thanks for the info. In truth, I am not cetain what to expect from high-flows. For the most part, they are just starting to trickle to the Z market and I certainly appreciate your offering (and your other products). I guess I was "hoping" for more. If 8-10rwhp is competitive across the board, expect an order from me soon due to your price. However, if another product reliably (re: not on just one dyno) shows 15 rwhp, then obviously I would go that route. However, you likely know more about this than I, so you are probably right, and hence will get another order soon.

Thanks and take care.

I would like to thank all_ bark and Kinetix Racing for giving us the opportunity to follow along with this process and view the results. It is extremely interesting and I am looking forward to the data that results from the dyno when the new plenum is operational and installed.

In my opinion, all_ bark is giving us honest reports of progress, including any stumbling blocks he runs into and of course the successes as well.

Generally, beta testing is done in private just in case problems arise or a need to go "back to the drawing board" is uncovered. This public beta testing shows me that the manufacturer is being above board and that he has a lot of confidence in the product that he developed.

I look forward to seeing the final numbers when all the parts and pieces are in place, tested and tweaked.

4.5 hp sounds about right for highflow cats.

I agree, 8-10 HP is test pipe territory. And also illegal emission crazy noisy territory. Remember, a high flow cat is still a cat. Your aren't going to be running open headers. They still have a job to do. Good review all-bark.
