Default ? for those with NISMO exhaust

Just got mine installed today. Somewhat louder than I expected. I hope that will die down over time.

Do your outlet tips seem to point up? I noticed while washing the car that water was pooling in them. They're not horizontal but seem to be up about 5-10°. Is this normal?

Oh YEAH!! That was one of the selling points for me. The exhaust tips are angled up to follow the upward curve of the rear bumper. Check out the BF Goodrich ad in most car mags--Sweet!

I use a couple of small towels to put over the tips when I wash my car cause I noticed the same thing happening as you.

Thanks guys! Being the first in my "neighborhood" with a NISMO exhaust, I didn't have anything to compare to. They do look great, don't they!

I love my NISMO exhaust. It thought it was a bit loud, and then I had the RT cats installed......LOUD!!!!! I only have about 150 miles on the cats, and I hear that they sound better after a few hundred miles. I like how they feel though. I also like the angled tips of the NISMO exhaust.

After about 300 or 400 miles. The cats and exhaust will settle down.

That's reassuring to hear. It's not loud at low RPM, almost like stock but it purrrrrs from about 2500 to 3000 which was my highway crusing speed. I didn't have the CD player going so it was the only thing I heard. Can't wait till my engine is broken in and hear it up above 4000.

DavesZ#3, I think you and I are the only two people who found the NISMO to be louder than expected. Mine got a little quieter after a few hundred miles as pimp1911 said, but then returned to its original sound level after that.

I always thought it was a general rule that exhausts got louder as they broke in?

TCL:

I recall seeing your thread on another board regarding your experience and eventual removal of the exhaust. I wonder if the "quieting-down" is just an effect of people getting used to the sound.

I drove around some yesterday and it didn't seem as loud except when the engine is under load. I don't mind that but I don't know about the drone at 3000RPMs when driving down the highway. Maybe but the time I have 1000 miles on the car I won't notice or mind at all.

im hoping mine getts louder. I only have about 400miles with my mods, and love the sound, but if it was alittle louder, that would be awesome. The new exhaust smell is something i could do without tough

I also think it depends on the mood of the driver. Sometimes I was in the mood for a louder exhaust and actually liked the NISMO's sound level. At other times it got a little too loud for me. My stock exhaust seems to have gotten a little louder now than when it was new. Right now it's just right for me in terms of volume.

I'd have to agree with you there. I usually drive around with the CD blaring fairly loud. With my new car, because I'm getting used to it, I haven't been listing to music much. I couldn't hear the stock exhaust over the sound of the stereo. Once I go back to listening to it all the time, I probably won't notice the NISMO as much. I've kinda' been depending on the car sounds to figure out shifing until I get used to it.

nismo exhaust with RT Cats on the dyno...

http://members.aol.com/performancenismo/dyno2.avi

it is loud... but... JIC is coming out with an electornic noise controller for exhausts.... you hit a button... it opens up and is loud, you hit the button again and it closes up the exhaust and gets quiet...
