Default Raspy Exhaust Fix. Newbie here.

Hi everyone. So I recently removed my cats and resonator. Had a strait pipe delete welded in from under exhaust manifold to the y pipe all the way back to the factory muffler. The car sounds wicked, but i'm getting a lot of raspy exhaust tones after 3k rpm. Is the stock muffler now just receiving too much pressure? Should I eliminate the y pipe and go true dual? Although removing the muffler would make it louder would it eliminate the rasp? Considering buying the HKS replica catback from ebay for $260??

Thanks in advance for the input!

Nissan has engineers who design their exhaust systems. What are your qualifications to do the same? You got exactly what you deserved, and hopefully learned a lesson.

Our factory exhaust was designed by engineers with both performance and sound in mind. Tampering with anything (i.e. muffler delete) means throwing all that out the window. At that point there's no telling what it'll sound like. If you wanted a nice and loud sound, you should replace the entire system with something like the Motordyne TDX2. Trying to fix your current rasp by slapping on an eBay replica exhaust system is like trying to control poisonous snake population by offering bounties... oh wait... I guess that's what they mean by the "Cobra Effect"?

So, you essentially have 'test pipes' with a modded 'stock catback'? Look at vids and reviews of catback systems with test pipes installed to get a general idea on the sound and past experiences of others. Eliminating the cats causes rasp, so possibly look into reinstalling the cats or getting High flow cats as an option. The HKS rep/ebay catback has a whole thread dedicated to it to help with your decision.

DCAINS you're a total **********. "Designed by engineers" engineers who have certain things they are looking for i.e. acceptable exhaust tone and volume by the general market. So you're basically saying that the restrictive exhaust this car has which is 2 cats, one resonator and one muffler is the 100% best configuration for this vehicle? You my friend are one dumb ****. Not sure if you're aware but when your engine breaths better it produces more power. I got what I deserve..? lol you say it like my car blew up. I really hope I run into you one day in person.

P.S. Thanks Spaceman and Matt

Maybe you should get your advice on Facebook? Anyway, enjoy your ban. Amazing it only took 3 posts.

Less than a 4hr drive from Lutz to Miami Fl. Maybe go for a ride so you aren't a keyboard warrior?

Yeah, it's maybe 3 hours, but what purpose would that serve? Maybe show the OP what a good exhaust sounds like on a car not covered in plastidip?

Had he simply made his post before hacking up his exhaust, he would have been told the crappy result beforehand. But, of course, he knew better . . . sucks to be stupid.

This whole thread was posted in the wrong section. I think a warning or infraction is in order.

After I installed Invidia test pipes I got a little rasp as well along with some sort of hissing sound around 2200-3k rpms, I have an exotic speed cat back exhaust. I ended up buying motordyne XYZ Y pipe with resonator and everything is fixed.

Simple fix, reinstall cats and buy a new exhaust system

If you read in the exhaust section, rasp is something that people have been dealing with for 13 years now. Tried and perfected systems are out there, most do not include hacked up exhaust systems.

I feel like this has been answered a million times.
Btw if you've done any research that ebay HKS rep sounds like a bag of a$$ and will make your noise worse.
