Default Questions about new 350Z exhaust on eBay

Has anyone seen this exhaust?: New 350Z Exhaust on eBay

I doesn't look like anything I've seen before on these forums and It's ridiculously cheap at $359. Supposedly all stainless steel with a Ti tip.

Comments please, I'm trying to make a decision about exhausts here soon.

TIA

Jeffrey

The piping looks too small to do any good. The stock exhaust piping looks much bigger. I think you'll end up losing horsepower. You for a little more money you can get a Apex N1 exhaust. I have the nismo exhaust and very happy with it.

Cool, thanks for all the replys. That's pretty much what I thought about it - it's crap. I emailed the seller before posting this thread, and still haven't heard back. That's definitely not a good sign.

I actually looked into this exhaust as i was also interesed. What i found out was that it is produced and manufactured by www.tommotorsoprt.com, in Taiwan. It is stainles with 3" diameter tubing, but the tips are not titanium. They are stainless as well. I decided to purchase it anyway. At $350.00 i could care less, and if it sucks, i'll just ebay it. To my surprise, i received the exhaust in about a day. It was definetly packed with great care. The exhaust is very light and took less than an hour to install. Welds are top notch with no slag and awsome finish. I realize this is some sort of nock off, possibly a nismo copy, but coppied very well. I was very concerned about the decibal level being very high or worse very raspy. In low gears its just one of sweetest sounding exhausts ive ever heard. Its a very nice, and mellow growl. At top end it just as quiet as stock. I actually liked the stock sound, but this kit gives it just the right amount of aggressivness. I wasnt able to find dyno numbers any where, but i can honestly say it woke up the bottom end quite a bit, which is what i like. Who can really use top end on the street anyway? I like everything off the line. I will say it is a good exhaust at a bargain, from one who took a chance on this, and i hate being riped off as much as the next guy. I actually contacted the company to offer them some marketing services as I felt they could have someething here if they just tried harder. I am also a manufacturer of motorcycle sportbike aftermarket products, so i know what to look for as far as producing hard parts and these guys know what their doing, but lack a lot of marketing skills. I'll try to post some install picks and close up shots of the craftsmanship. Hopefully i can get it dyno'd soon. I dont expect to see more than maybe 6.5 horspower, but after driving around i can definetly feel i big differece in throttle response, torque, and good freeway rollon in any gear. I have to say the install was flawless and i just kept on getting surprised, especially after driving it around. It's definetly not junk, just a descent bargain. I'll admit that i thought it was an ebay junk item, as well. At $350.00, i thought i would do the invetigating for fellow Z owners who cant always afford the best. On the other hand it could be one of the best.

I hate to say it, but SOMETIMES the quality of the welds, the polish, and overall contruction on these Chinese products are AWESOME.

They have serious production capabilities over there, and they often produce great quality at a completely unbeatable price.

We have purchased several different types of exhaust products, headers, mufflers, manifolds, etc when we use to do retail in the past, and the stuff looks awesome, at sometimes ridiculous prices.

I am not surprised you are very happy with this exhaust, especially at such a huge savings.

You can purchase fully mirror polished stainless mufflers for about $35-50 and they have top notch assembly. I dont even see how they make money sometimes selling at that price.

I've been reading alot good things about your product line. I,m leaving for China and Taiwan shortly to investgate manufacturing sport bike exhaust. I have already received samples of full titanium exhaust and they are awsome and very inexpensive. I would guess from what i know about manufacturing overseas which i have been doing for nearly a decade that most car exhaust produced there run well under a hundred bucks. Part of the reason it's so inexpensive is that labor for an average Chinese is about 10 bucks a day and the exchange rate is 9.1 to our dollar. In additon to that, the Chinese are masters at copying most anything, but if you want creativity it is very hard to get that from them. so all research and development must come from us, state side. Myself and other business partners are going to look into manufacturing exhaust, intakes and maybe plenums, for imports since we'll be there. I would just like to provide the best value for the dollar to consumers. A good exhaust is based on simple good base line specifications, that is also quickly tunable to maximize the engines performance, and once thats figured its cheap and easy to manufature with top notch materials, so why should the enthusiast pay so much for upgrades, besides the greed factor from the company? My point is that a $300.00 exhaust system can and sometimes is the same as a thousand dollar system with propbably less compromise in quality and or performance. In addition one can still maintain acceptable margins as for an owner to not starve to death, and maintain a lucrative and viable business. I just believe that consuners should also get the upper hand. Hell, a good night out at the strip bars with the boys can cost 300 bucks or more and most likely nothing to show for it at the end of a drunken night.

Long live the free-market economy!

This is great stuff. I too have been doing business with Asia in consumer electronics for nearly a decade. Zeed is dead-on in his assessment of Chinese industrial capabilities/culture. The manufacturing culture is definitely where industrial espionage is king - meaning they will wait until a market emerges, then copy EXACTLY and simply sell at a lower price. The artificially controlled value of the RNB (Chinese currency) has enabled them to gain market share and become nearly unbeatable in any market their government-subsidized factories decide to enter. However, recent international political pressures are working to raise the value of the RNB to be competitive with other industrialized countries, and suppliers will have to begin raising prices in the next few years.

Another aspect is the characteristics of the labor force: abundant supply and relatively low wages. China has no other industry other than manufacturing, and with over a billion people that would otherwise just be farmers, the huge manufacturing industry represents a relatively good life. To most westerners, the reality is somewhat of a shock, how factory workers live in dormitories on the property and the long work days, but this is relative security compared to scratching a living out of the earth in Eastern Mongolia.

Zeed - I wish you luck in your venture, it sounds as it has the makings of a good success story. I too am a sportbike rider and would have seriously considered another full-Ti alternative to my Akrapovic Aprilia Mille R system if one existed. I'm in the market for an exhaust now, so if you need a donor/test vehicle for your full-ti 350Z exhaust research, PM me!
