Default New exhaust law - California

If you drive/live in California, be aware of this in the event you're thinking about doing a muff delete.

Passing this along from our friends over at Japanese Nostalgic Car (http://japanesenostalgiccar.com/)...

of course they will enforce it, a car owner has money unlike the common criminal. They don't care about crime, they care about profit.

There are literally a s***ton of CARB legal exhaust systems, and cut-outs are illegal in EVERY state. Bunch of whiners getting their panties in a bunch about nothing.

the exhaust is post cat and is not considered an emmisions device. Since it's post cat, it will not have a carb number, what they are busting people for is noise, you need an aftermarket system that meets noise requirements. Corvette owners are getting ticketed doe stock exhausts.

Remember when 590k people signed a petiton for California to become its own country? Pepperidge Farm remembers.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/california-is-a-nation-not-a-state-a-fringe-movement-wants-a-break-from-the-us/2017/02/18/ed85671c-f567-11e6-8d72-263470bf0401_story.html?noredirect=on&utm_term=.4568cfe3a967

Just because you have a petition of signatures against something, its not a guarentee you will get what you are asking of the State/Gov't. Like it was mentioned above they are not after criminals, they are after the people with money, folks working for an honest buck and not breaking the law. Yes there are a few that give the car community a bad name, but the majority are law abiding citizens that suffer due to those few hoonigans. This is just my opinion. Take it as you will.

The people you vote in positions that affect your lives are in office in that state, think about that....

couldn't agree more … why are people penalized for having a astronomical work ethic, a good idea, a better mouse trap, overall being successful?

Everyone is on that Tomei minimalist, loud as hell exhaust. I think that law is a good thing, I don't live there but putting a super loud exhaust on a car for an extra 2-5 HP is stupid, there are plenty of quiet & legal exhaust system that are an improvement over stock.

It's ridiculous. We have to overturn this. Arizona sounds like much better state to live in after this.

As much as I can't stand the C.A.R.B., I tend to agree with this (as it's not smog related). Where I live there's a lot of "tuners" putting the loudest, most irritating exhaust systems on their cars. At night, nearly every night (but usually over weekends), these same people are doing donuts in nearby shopping center parking lots or treating every stop light as a drag strip. I even had some guy in a late 90s Camaro spinning donuts in front of my house (corner house), in the 4-way intersection, in the mid-afternoon. Keep in mind this is in a suburban neighborhood with kids around. He would do this for 15-30 seconds then take off only for me to hear him doing it again in a nearby neighborhood. Funny enough, most offenders are not rolling in imports, these are almost all American Sports cars (mustangs, camaros, challengers, chargers, corvettes, and trucks.). Pretty much anything with a V8, so the sound really carries across great distances.

That being said, the law doesn't change the existing sound level restrictions. So put simply, if you want to be a repeat offender, you can no longer use the fix-it ticket & correction combo paying $25 to be on your merry way. I'm hoping this will help reduce the noise pollution. There's a time and place to be loud and proud with your vehicle and it's not in suburban neighborhoods at 12AM. Don't even get me started on bikers who rip their baffles out.

Great, I recently put on a single exit. It is barely louder than stock though with the silencer in place.

As long as you are under the 96dbm limit and still pass emissions you're good to go.
