You can poke holes if you have a very sharp punch. I found drilling the two holes much easier.
I don't know why you guys are stressing out on these two little holes. I never put mine in, works fine without them. The two bolts at the bottom that hold the metal that clamps the shield is very strong by itself, no need to secure it to the plastic airduct. But I guess if you have to have it there then by all means stress out . j/k

I don't even have the air duct on my car anymore. My shield is just held in at the bottom.
