So I stumbled across these 3 different options for all you current Shockwave TDX2 owners out there. Apparently, they came out a little over a month ago. There are a couple youtube vids out there, but I was wondering if anyone on here has any real world experience and feedback. Is the Shockwave loud enough in its original form? Yes, of course it is. But for some reason, the obnoxious teenage ricer in me really wants to get the non resonated delete pipe. The three options are:
1. Motordyne Shockwave Muffler Delete Pipe appropriately called the "THUNDER pipe":
3. Motordyne Shockwave High Flow Resonated Muffler Delete Pipe
Option 1 is the loudest and cheapest. Option 2 is the so-called "quietest" and most expensive. And then option 3, the high flow resonated pipes, are somewhere in between.
Has anyone on here tried any of these out on their Shockwaves?
hell i dont think i would want it any louder than it already was
No kidding. I don't have their ART pipes, but I have a set of Berk HFCs. I would imagine that with ART pipes and the Shockwave coupled with the Thunder pipe, the sound would just be unbearable after 30 seconds.
But at the end of the day, the thunder pipe is only about $240. Would it be money well spent? Very doubtful. But maybe just something to throw on from time to time for fun. I'm debating between that and the resonated high flow pipes which are around $350. If I went with those, I likely would not interchange them as often, but the 'fun' factor would be lower.
I currently am running the thunder pipe on mine. Sounds nuts with the cams, but I love it. It's extremely loud at idle and under throttle, but surprisingly about the same to me while cruising vs. the standard muffler section. However, I don't really take this car on long trips anymore. I'm sure it would be obnoxious to drive it for an extended period. Added benefit of the exhaust as a whole is that it's a v-band system. Really easy to swap out if I want, which makes it fun, and not permanent.
Good feedback. I still do take the Z on some road trips (not recently as of right now), but I figured the thunder pipe would be a little much for long drives. The V band system is nice for quick swaps.
Any sound clips of your setup? I bet it sounds insane with cams.
Just to update this thread to help out any others - I finally got around to installing this. I went with the high flow resonated muffler delete pipe. When I purchased it back in October 2020, it was $346. It's $100 more now from Z1.
I've had it installed for about a month now. It's substantially lighter than the "suitcase" that comes with the Shockwave exhaust system. Installation and fitment was spot-on and just a matter of disconnecting and reconnecting 3 v-band clamps. It is definitely louder at idle but not obnoxious. At normal driving, the exhaust sound is certainly accentuated but no real increase in drone. The "fun" starts after 3500 rpms and at WOT. It freaking screams. Make no mistake, it is loud. The first time I drove it and let it loose, I was dying laughing.
I'll try to get some video/sound clips posted shortly. It might be a minute since there is a lot going on with life right now, but soon...
