After closer inspection on our new 05 roadster it looks like this cheap cold air intake is shot! I saw the crappy install but did not notice the filter had deteriorated. I need a replacement ASAP. Recommendations please? IT looks much shorter than most of the ones I'm seeing online. Is that the MAP sensor just above it? Thanks
Yes, that's the OEM MAF mounted in the plastic tube portion. You're in Ohio, so you probably have more aftermarket intake options than I have being in CA. But if it were my Z, I would get an OEM airbox (preferably from an 06 Revup) and slap in a good quality filter cartridge. Something like THIS.
If you want to continue with an aftermarket option. I like the Mishimoto unit for the VQ35DE. It still uses a cone style filter, but the box design seals nicely with the hood to keep the hot air out.
Go with the OEM airbox, as you won't get any gains from the aftermarket ones (without a tune). The OEM design is a good design, with an easy way to check, clean or replace the filter element.
