I have not had a chance top install the one on my car just yet......maybe today if I can convince the guys to come in on a Sunday and help out.

TodayI think is brake install day though (AP)...cannot wait for that one

Within the next 2 weeks though, it will be on the car, that I guarantee. I also am going to try and figure out a nice clean way to make the planum smooth like the OEM on the outside....not that I am not a big fan of what the guys at Kintix make (the plenum is a really trick piece, as are their camber arms), but its a bit too "aftermarket" looking for me.

Check out my site www.350ZFreak.com/plenum.htm for complete installation instructions as well as an un-biased review at the end.

My quick answer is that it is the absolute BEST mod that I have on my car. The difference you feel is immediate and WELL worth every cent of the price!

Very helpful. Thanks for posting all that info.
I will post a review as soon as I get mine.

If you look close at one of the final pictures that Chris posted with OEM engine cover within his instructions it appears as though he fastened his 5th and 6th wire to the OEM Air Intake Tube support mount. Just behind the oil fill point.

Give that man a cigar!

Yeah, I figured that was as good a place as any to mount it. There is another picture a little higher up on my site that has the spot pictured a little better. One thing I did do though was take a knife and scrape some of the paint off around the hole in the Air tube mount because I wanted to make sure there was a good contact point for the ground wires. I know that all_bark mounted his farther back by the throttle body, but I figure that as long as it's mounted somewhere on the metal part of the engine, it's cool.

Hey guys. I understand cars and basic mechanics, but some of these things I dont.

Question 1 - What does a plenum actually do and what does it replace?

Question 2 - What do grounding wire kits do?

Question 3 - How does a new pulley add HP? Also is this pulley the crankshaft pulley?

I'm assuming the UR pulley is lighter and therefore easier to spin? Correct me if I'm wrong and please elaborate.

Also, if you guys dont have the time to post replies in length, just direct me to a site that has information on all the aftermarket things in detail.

I really like my car and I just got it, and I want to add only the best components. Price doesn't matter. I will be going FI after 5k miles. I wanted to give the engine a chance to break in.

Are there any items that I will have to remove that I buy before my turbo kit purchase?

Sorry for the lengthy post.

Thanks for the responses if they come.

1. The new Plenums replace the top portion of the stock plenum with one that allows for a larger volume of air which in turn, increases hp.

2. Grounding kits supposedly make the car run a bit smoother and maybe even gain 1 or 2 hp by providing a "cleaner" signal to the ECU by reducing noise. Some claim that they actually can create a magnetic field which could actually be harmful... but considering that Nismo actually makes a kit, it obviously must be of some benefit.

3. Yes, it's the crank pulley that is replaced. The new pulley adds hp by being lighter and smaller which in turn creates less rotational mass. It's made of aluminum and there is approximately a 2 or 3 pound difference in weight. If you check the threads on the forum you'll find several debates on whether the pulleys could actually damage the engine due to harmonic vibrations since the new pulleys do not have dampeners, but others say that the crank is internally balanced. I have pulleys on my Z and I'm not worried about them.

I hope that answers your questions.

Wow thanks for the explanation. Couple more questions.

I understand that the ECU learns the A/F ratio over a certain amount of time and sticks with it until some more than minor changes occur. When installing the new plenum, which in turn adds more air to the a/f mixture, would it not make the car run lean?

This sort of brings me to another point. How would an ECU react to the engine being turbo-charged, and how does turbo-charging effect the a/f ratio.

I'm probably addressing questions that have been posed 100 times. Sorry if this is the case.

Well, I am not 100% sure about the car running lean. I think that the ECU will compensate immediately to the increase of air volume and then just fine tune itself over time.

Sorry, but I can't answer your Turbo question because I myself don't know much about them. Perhaps one of the other guys/gals on the forum can answer his question?

How hard is it to install the kinetix plenum, is it a simple bolt on or is it something i could possibly F up, i do pipefitting so im not talking about i dont know how to put things together, i just dont work on cars all that much, so difficulty rating from 1 to 10 10 being the highest, do u think an inexperienced tuner should do it himself or pay up the money. Thanx guys.

The white "rings" are spacers for the rear connection points of the engine cover and the 2 bolts are the replacement bolts since the cover will sit highter with the KINETIX plenum... however, unless you want to remove your strut bar every time you want to take off your engine cover, leave those empty. I just have the front 2 bolts holding the engine cover on and it is VERY secure. It's not going anywhere.

Thanks guys. I realized what they were for after reading Chris' instructions again - the entire thing, including the engine cover section (I own a FX so I always skipped that bit).

By the way, did you guys notice any small blemishes/rough spots in the plenum? I decided to sand them down slightly with some 100, 150 & 240 grit sand paper to smooth them out - I thought some were enough to possibly cause unwanted whistle/noise.

Cant wait to install this bad boy this wknd.

Yeah, mine has some small imperfections in it as well, but I am not concerned about it. Especially after I installed it and stepped on the gas!
