Default AEM CAI Install

Did anyone disconnect your battery prior to starting the install. There is nothing in the lousy directions, however seems that doing such will reset the computer (with the air flow change) once the install is complete and the battery in re-connected.
Thoughts...........

I didn't disconnect mine when I installed it. I also did not unplug the MAF so I saw no need to disconnect the battery.

I didn't disconnect the battery and really haven’t felt much increase in power with the AEM. Haven't dynoed the car yet but plan on it in April.

I am trying to figure out if its worth it. The homelink system was a pain in the *** to program, running to and from the car to program the garage door opener. On the other hand I think if the battery is dis-connect, thwen re-connect upon completion then the computer should re-sync to the ne air flow mixture. AEM instructiona and all the posts on 3 different 350Z sites have never mentioned dis-connecting the battery.

Just ordered an AEM CAI here myself. Looks fairly simple to install, but do you have to do anything specific to reset the ECU or does it do it on it's own.

Oh and Bonz I tried clicking on your link and it tells me I need a loging name and password. Is this a private site or how do I get around this?

It is www.350zfrenzy.com You may need to register for the site to see it. Right now (Saturday 3-20-04 at 3:50 PM) the site is down for upgrades. You may need to check back later.

I personally love the AEM CIA. I didnt disconnect the battery nor did i remove the front strut brace as mentioned in the manual. After taking it on and off so many times for dealership work, it would normally take me 20 minutes to install.

I installed my this weekend and didn't disconnect the battrery. The only thing i noticed was the idle RPM's were up to about 1000, after 20 minutes of driving through all gears, the RPM was back to factory specs. The only issue I had with the install, using AEM instructions and instructions from other installs online, The factory wiring that you re-locate from the drivers side wheel well to the bracket that attached to the far right bolt near the radiator, well the wires are too short to meet the the bracket. Did anyone else have this issue. This is a 03 AEM CAI and I have a 04 ZZZZZZ, other then that the operation went well. I didn't remove the wheel. I went from underneath and remove 4 10mm bolt to access the end of the bottom portion ans install the pop charger.

I didn't remove the wheel and didn't remove the strut. Didn't have any issues with the wires being too short either. Mine is a preorder 03.

Here is the link to my Do It Yourself install. It's back up again:

Just installed mine, along with a lot of cussing of course. The directions aren't very straight forward but with that and Dr. Bonz little link (golf clap) I managed to get it in. After a little test drive though I did notice the service engine light is on. Is this something that nromally happens or did I miss something?

Several have said that their CEL came on after install. Mine did not but you can try the ECU reset technique or just unplug your battery for 12 hours and it should go away.

ECU reset:

You may have an air leak, Mine did not come either. I ensured all
calmps were tight and re checked prior to starting the engine.

I'm actually removing mine... didn't like the performance after a while... I resent my ECU, however, I have gotten some poor performance - I think the intake pipe is too long. Replacing mine with something shorter IE JWT POP.

I felt the same way 3rdpower. I took a hacksaw to mine an made it a short ram LOL. Car seemed boggy after the AEM install. Seems better now cause the filter sits in front of the factory airbox air scoop thingy. Dont even care about an intake anymore, plan on going TT this winter.
