Default Magnaflow exhaust loss bottom end torque?

I had camaro style magnaflow muffler put on my car over a year ago, not to many systems were out and I thought the stillen was a hefty price(still do) The muffler guy(thats what we will call him) said to to a true cat back would take away power because it was mandrel bent from the factory, So he puts on the magnaflow and takes off the resonator /replaces with a straight pipe, Do you think If i put on a Y pipe it would help, Im frustrated dont want to get another system just to have the same thing happen. The magnaflow look to be the same styel as the oem muffler . WHAT WENT WRONG?

SYSTEMS IM CONTEMPLATING IN ORDER

1.BORLA TRUE DUAL
2. HAVE MY GUY DO A MANDREL TRUE DUAL WITH A X PIPE AND CAN STYLE MUFFLERS
3. KEEP MY MAGNAFLOW AND GET AN AFTERMARKET Y PIPE

PLEASE HELP!

I bet you are using 3 inch piping too right or did you just replace the muffler?

I had this exact setup. You don't want to lose too much back pressure on a N/A setup open exaust systems are usually for FI or N20.

Your best bang for the buck is to lose those stock cats and restrictive 2.25 Y-Pipe and run a 2.50 dual but you need to bring more air in like say a CAI and plenum or it's a waste of money.

I did your exact exhaust for my N20 I speak from experience.

Actually it was 2.5 in and out but the mid pipe is the same diameter as stock .......and a removed resonator. I was very disapointed, I think the magnaflow camaro style has very little baffeling. I mean when it was stock I felt I was being put in my seat little now its just loud and it really goes no where,,,,did you use a camaro style too........thanks 12

yes it was a camaro style I used the Magnaflow and the Flowmaster in the OEM location.

You need more back pressure or more torque I can help you more about this, I am watching a movie it's real good.

I will be back in an hour.

I wasted lots of money on 3 different exhaust setups.

Tell me your goal.

N/A, FI, or N20 and I will check back and others can help too I think I was the first to try the Flowmaster in the OEM location with good results but I had a CAI.

I want to eventually vortech this thing. but for right now the magnaflow is driving me crazy, I do have the JWT POP charger. I just miss that bottom end acceleration, Im leaning toward the Borla TD, Tell me if im wrong but shouldnt I be using a chambered muffler like a flow master........thanks reply when its convenient with you- thanks

p.s what do you think about a 2.5 cat back with a x pipe and dual or single chambered flow master?

Based on what you have said I reccommend a good cat back. It will address your entire exhaust from the cats back including the muffler that you can sale like I did.

I won't argue against the Borla True Dual because it's what I have and I love it. It's a deep low rumble, not loud enough for some but I had loud, now I have power and get compliments on the sound. Then when you go Vortech maybe some high flow cats which will really bring it alive. Good plan!

The movie ended up sucking for what it's work lol.

I would also recommend the borla or even the Nismo is pretty good.

I'm using a Maganflow muffler also, on my fabricated dual system. It's a dual in dual out cross flow. It has 2.25" piping, an H pipe, and two Blue Streak glass packs. Since I built my system, about 10 months ago, I've added Crawford Hi-Flow Cats. I find the system to sound great. Very mellow at idle and low RMS, but screams when floored. It's responsive and does everything I think a good system should. I'm very pleased with it.

Default exhaust

This is exactly the kind of posts I have been looking for as I try and figure out what I am going to do with my exhaust. Here are my concerns, and what I want and I would love to get your opinions of what you would do if you were me.

#1, I really want something inexpensive, because I do not have much to spend

#2 Sound, I don't want it really loud, and no farting rice sounds

#3 Performance, I would rather spend $200 and get 4 horse then $1000 and a really nice system and get 10.

I was unaware that there were aftermarket mufflers that would fit on a Z, I thought you needed the entire system. What companies make mufflers, Do they weld right in with no adjustments, and what sound the closest to stock.

Finally, could you tell me what set up you would reccomend, and how much each piece would cost me....much appreciated.
