Default Kinetix V3 Plenum installed.... issues:

I just got my plenum on friday and installed it this weekend. Before I get into anything else, I do want to say that I'm extremely pleased with it sound/performance wise, but I have a few install issues and want input from someone who has this mod. First of all... 3 of the screw holes seem to be slightly misalighned forward... The two screws that go into the top of the plenum seemed to go in at a very slight angle and didn't just want to 'drop straight in'... but that was fine. the bigger problem was the screw right at the back of the plenum (the really long screw) That was is also not going down straight, and gets to the point where you can't screw it in all the way because the top of the screw starts rubbing against the wall of the recess its supposed to go into. This is a bit disconcerning. Also, while tightening one of the front screws, the plenum cracked... but the crack is in the very front of the screw hole, and not threatening or able to spread to any 'workable' part of the plenum.

So my question is.. should I get this thing replaced, or does anyone have any suggestions I can work with to keep this one. If i replace it, how is Kinetix usually with dealing with replacements? Do I have to send this one in first to get a new one?

Thanks much in advance.. and again... over all, I'm still so very satisfied with the results of this mod sound/power wise... and I just want to work out these small issues I have with it.

Maybe contact Kinetix first would be your best bet?

are you talking about the flange bolt that caused the cracked? does it have sleeves in the hole?

I'd get it replaced. Sounds like too many defects to me.

A previous thread stated that they are looking at V4. Could ship as early as this week. V4 has NO holes in the center of the plenum. You might want to contact Kinetex and confirm. Return for V4, but keep Ve until V4 arrives.

YES!

Definitely contact Kinetix about a replacement. A small crack now = BIG crack later. KINETIX is a TOP NOTCH company and their service is second to none. Let them know what happened and I'm confident that they'll take care of ya!

Check this out for "other" problems that might arise during the install process.

Default Kinetix plenum

It sounds like the plenum was not aligned properly before you started to tighten it down.. TOO many misalignments.

Not necessarily. On my V1 plenum, I had aligned all the flange bolts and hand tightened them all down, but when I got to the long bolt that Static described, I had the same problem. It was offset by about 1/16th of an inch and I had to ream it out with a drill to get it aligned properly. I have not had this problem with the newer versions of the plenum, however.

I received mine on Thursday, and also installed it this past weekend. This sounds similar to my experience, albeit with different holes, and no cracks. The screw posts to the left and right of the plenum were a little tight - I had to apply a bit of force to get the plenum to drop over them. It's as if one or both of them were 1-2 mm too far in.

As for the long screw on the center back right of the plenum, my socket rubbed the hole recess, but not enough to not allow it to tighten.

The center holes looked a bit off, but there was no problem getting the screws started and tightening them.

My biggest problem was with the bolt on the back center of the plenum. This one did not align well at all. I got it on and tightened, but I'll be checking the surrounding area for leaks.

All of the other holes lined up perfectly, or near enough.

I have not yet reported the hole alignment issues to Kinetix, although I did report an issue I saw with the coolant block. When I removed the V2 Friday afternoon, the coolant block had experienced a leak at some point during the past 6 weeks. It definitely was not a regularly-occurring leak, but there was crusted coolant residue on and around each hose fitting, as well as around the plug on the side of the coolant block. It made removing the hose on the straight fitting extremely difficult. Also, both the coolant block screws had come loose. Anyway, I cleaned the fittings and block, and applied teflon tape around the threads (as recommended by ChrisMCagle, although for different reasons, on the sight he references in his reply above), before attaching the block to the V3 plenum.

It all went back together Saturday, with no problems since.

All the holes have sleeves.. Its the second bolt from the left of the very front of the plenum. The plastic split around the sleeve, but at the very front where it can't spread anywhere.

Thanks for all the replies everyone. IN a way its good to see that other people have seen these issues as well.. I was worried maybe I did something wrong. I guess I'll have this thing replaced..

Just curious.. will kinetix ship out a plenum before they recieve this one back, or will my car have to be down while I wait?

They will ship out a new one after you inform them of the problem..At least that was my experience.. Called them in the morning and a new one was shipped that day. Only problem was it took a week to arrive. Ask them to expedite delivery..
