Do i need to reset the ECU?? I have the service engine light, VDC and SLIP light all on - - help
When I installed my Nismo CAI - no ECU reset was needed. Just installed & took off. I can't imagine it being anything other than the MAF sensor - everything else on the CAI is just a tube basically. I do know that if the MAF sensor isn't plugged in correctly (some have mentioned pluging it in backwards ??) or if it was damaged during removel or re-install it will cause the same problems you're speaking of. Of course you want to make sure nothing was left inside the tubes themselves (packing material, tools, etc) - don't be insulted with that last comment...just thinking of anything it could be.
I appreciate the help - yes it sputters and then stalls - after the third start attempt it goes into limp mode, I was very careful with the MAF so damage to it is very un-likey - - all connections seem tight - - the wird thing is that with the version 2 you mount the CAI into the long tube, based on the bolt flange it mounted in the opposite direction than stock ?? Does the air flow have to flow the same way or doesn't that matter?? stock had release clip on connector facing the fender, with Nismo CAI the clip on the connector faces towards engine???

It only mounts one direction on the Nismo tube, and the tube mounts one way only - does air flow direction across/past the MAF sensor make a difference??? because it is opposite the oem setup.
I've read a few thread where people have had similiar probs and that's what it was. I'm not famililar with the Nismo intake. I'm only jumping in here because it doesn't seem like your getting much of a response. I have a 03 Max, and yes it matters which way the MAF tube is mounted. I'm not sure if I'm remembering correctly but I thought when I did my intake the MAF tube had an arrow on it.

?? OK I get you thought - are you saying the air flow direction across the MAF makes a difference??? It only will mount in one direction, but like I said it's opposite of the oem
Here's a thread with pic of the Nismo intake installed showing the flange part of the MAF tube facing towards the front bumper.

The new version 2 Nismo does away with using the plastic MAF (flange) assembly, directions tell you to remove the two screws that mounts the MAF to the plastic tube (oem) and using those same two screws mount it into the Nismo long tube that has the MAF mounting flange - - this is where I noticed the orientation difference - - say on the oem the front screw on the MAF now will only mount when rotated 180 degrees on the Nismo tube - therefor the air flow direction is now opposite from oem?? If that matters maybe there is a design flaw in the new Nismo version 2???? Anybody have a version 2 Nismo CAI?
I found the problem - the Nismo version 2 has a long tube that has a flange welded to it to mount the MAF - - the falnge is welded on backwards - the MAF can't be mounted the right way - - took it all off and car started and ran fine, still have the service engine light - - checking with Nissan to see whats next - thanks for the help.
Before you go to Nissan, try resetting the ECU yourself to see if that takes care of the CEL.
