Default Are my RT Cats going bad? (Other RT owners come inside please)

OK,

I have been getting a check engine light that was rich condition bank one. Since I upgraded my fuel pump I now get the light (about every 100 miles) rich condition bank one and bank 2!

The car runs perfect but about once every 5 burn outs from a dead stop to WOT it *bogs* despite the boost guage going up, EGT in spec and all other guages normal.

I have a high stall torque converter too.

I was emailing someone who said this sounds like an RT cat slowly going bad.

Others who have went bad is this sound like your symptoms?

Most days it runs perfect rich bank or not light on or not just an occasional bog.

The plug change seemed to change it for about a month but the plugs I pulled out looked perfect. Nice and tan on the inside and just barely black around thebottom two threads.

I understand being fat becuse I am technosquare flashed for 9 pounds and I can even live clearing the light once a week but this bogging has me concerned.

Thoughts??

Did you ask whosdaddy? His car did the same thing and his RT cats had clogged the exit pipe.

You might want to get it checked out. You can remove your y pipe and just peep into the cats and see whats up.

Yes I am in email with him. He thinks it is cats also.
Thanks.

I am at the point now where if I go to a lift and pull them off they are being replaced with something.

That or the crawfords comes down to price right now.

This is a seriuos question because I love Crawford and their crew but the resonated Kinetex looks tough to beat for my 9 PSI of FI.

Would it run perfect every 7th run then bog on the 8th????

Wouldn't it bog on every run? Whosdaddy says it is a slow process and is convinced I have the problem he had a bad cat.

Almost 600 bucks for this stuff!

Hey what about the Stillen resonated test pipes? half my car is Stillen and Performance sells them which is where I bought these?

I wish I had a lift or was in TN. That is exactly what I would do.

Ordered some Stillens for 297.00 got free shipping and a RA from RT already. Then will either sell or return these.

Anyone wanna pre buy my RT's that isn't running FI? They said all cats on high PSI FI will eventually fail.

I will sell them for 375.00 shipped if someone prebuys if not I will return them. They are currently 559.00!

Peas!

Man Technosquare Danny is good people as is Jason at Performance. And the Crawford cre too.

I wish I could get the he!! out of stinking Northern CA.

We got jerks around here in our shops that I usually wanna throw around a bit of course I can't do that but I let them know that is what I wanna do heh that is wwhy they call me Mad Max.

So per Danny at TS.

Install new test pipes, reset ECU, drive 100 miles break them in, lather rinse repaeat then go beat everyone at the track.

God Bless America!!!

"who said all cats will fail on high boost fi? was this from rt?"

No it was soemone else but RT did say that an indicator is these running rich codes and they asked if I had FI and then the brand I think from the way the interview went heh it sounds like they are putting together a database of those that fail and what type of FI they have and if they were rich or lean etc.

Default cats

Dont think failing cats would cause you to bog once in awhile like you said [ every 8th run] I didnt know mine were going bad till one of them collapsed and plugged up the exhaust......I just order the La Bree cats with resonaters .

i really don't get the RT cat problems EVERYONE seems to be having... they're perfect for me. could it be due to the fact i'm running the stock exhaust?

yes plus I have FI.

I want to be *clear* that I am not 100% sure my cats are bad I just have the symptoms of them being bad. I haven't verified it.

I wanted to switch to straight throughs anyways and I am going to be running a brand I haven't seen mentioned on here yet.

My old ones will be on Ebay.

Thanks again to the Performance Nissan gang again for getting my new parts out to me. They will be here thursday and installed friday. Can't wait!!!!!!

I called RT. They said it is not FI that damages the cats, but rather rich running conditions. Properly tuned FI should be fine.

However, there may be a reduction in boost with certain SCs (Stillen?). This is what I'm investigating, as I have Stillen SC and RT cats. So far so good...
