which one should i go with?
a new JWT Popcharger or a used injen or aem cai?
what would you go with?
i want the sound and the performance.
what's the difference in sound between cai and popcharger?
which has more hissings noise?

GL, I would go with the JWT, best bang for the buck, and has that sound you would like.

 

I went from Nismo CAI to Popcharger, very satisfied with it. They both have hissing noise. Popcharger is louder.
I have the CAI for sale btw.

 

I'd go with the Pop charger. Its an easier install and it is cheaper. It may not look as good, but it's ok with me.

I would go Injen CAI if you go CAI. It is a better design than the AEM/Nismo product because the Air filter is out where cold air is actually at instead of behind the wheel well. The popcharger is cheaper and has shown third best gains behind the Gruppe-M (expensive) and the Injen CAI. The Injen install is not as hard as many people make it to be. Many people remove the front bumper, but that is not necessary. The popcharger is probably still an easier install though. One nice thing about the Popcharger is that you will not have to clean the filter as often since it is inside the engine bay. I have to clean my Injen filter every month or two if I want to retain maximum performance with it.

hmmm...i'm not a guy who can clean the filter very often though. hardly wash the car once a month.

If looks are your top priority, go Gruppe-M, but major $$$$$

If performance is what your after, they ALL do the same. From slight loss to 3-4hp gain. Get a less restrictive filter (Nismo S or K&N) to go in the already exellent stock intake system, and wrap with Heatshield Cool intake insulation.

This may be true on a stock car but not on my car that has a lot of modifications. I tested the stock air box with K&N on the strip, the Injen CAI setup as a short ram, and finally the Injen setup as a true CAI and the results were eye opening. The Injen setup as a CAI gave me a 0.4 second improvement in the 1/4 over stock air box/K&N and a 0.6 second improvement over Injen setup as short ram. I learned two things:

1. The Injen should not be setup as a short ram (I even used a heat shield, not as nice as the popcharger though) with the stock filter on my car, a popcharger filter may be ok here.

2. The Injen CAI is much better on my car than the stock air box with a K&N filter.

I am not sure if this is mainly due to the many mods that I have or not but if so, this is an indication of the air temp and amount of air flow gained by the Injen CAI as compared to the stock air box with K&N.

 

I should clarify that this was done before the TS ECU and the 350EVO TB were added. So I had:

Pullies, Plenum, Headers, HF cats, Injen SES exhaust and the intake changes

so did the popcharger give you any hp gain? i read alotta ppl's threads complaining about lose in hp and also stalling problems.

 

I have not had the Popcharger in my car. I thought by setting up the Injen as a short ram it would give me an idea of how it might perform, but the only problem with this comparison is that the Injen filter is not designed to pull air in from the from of the filter like the Popcharger, only from the sides. I thought about buying the Popcharger just to try it against the Injen but felt my money would be better spent on other mods. The Injen has also been proven in other previous dynos, other than Injen, to provide better gains. I truly believe the Injen is better out on the street as well where it can pull colder air into the intake system. It also has a much longer intake tube which helps to preload the intake system with air allowing more air, with less resistance, into the plenum when the throttle body opens. The Dyno only shows a glimpse of the gains IMO, out on the track in real life means more to me. I wouldn't mind having the Popcharger filter to stick on the end of my Injen tubing, that may be the best of both worlds!!

 

I'm very happy with the JWT pop charger. Excellent value upgrade and sounds bitchin.

 

i don't see how you can compare performance using your track times...too much of a variance...unless you are one hell of a driver and consistant like a mofoz

i like the stock air box with the k&n.....given what's out there for now

 

The JWT is worth it for the sound difference alone. Screams like a V-8 over 4500 rpms! You may not technically be going faster, but it sure sounds like you are!

 

I have an automatic, and yes it is very consistent!! I can run down the track 10 times and be within 0.1 on every run probably even closer than that if I were to check all my slips on any given night. The only real time there is a variance is if I hit the rev limiter coming out of first, which has only happened a couple times out of many many runs.
