Default espirit hi cap. intake manifold (spacer)

anyone have any experience with this??

i wonder if it would work WITH the crawford version (to fit underneath the hood of my G that is)

the idea seems sound, and the price (although ia bit high) isnt too bad (if it works well w/ the oem manifold.....

thoughts?? So, is this just the spacer (blue?) or is it an entire lower manifold??)

Description
Designed to replace the stock intake manifold and create an increased intake volume. Significant increases in power compared to any other intake device modification.

Applications: 350Z, Fairlady Z, Z33

Hmnnnn..... if it fits under the hood, I don't see why not give it a try. I know it's expensive though.

On the Z, the spacer requires lower motor mounts. But maybe the G has more clearance. Someone on the board also made a spacer and lost horsepower. Do a search on it.

The subject has been bought up several times before. But I' just tried to seach and find the post's and post a link. However a search only turn's up one thread that only mentions the spacer in passing. Oh well I tried. I do remember that no one has it.

increase in air intake volume = increase in power. I dont understand how it would take away power.

either way, The esprit spacer kit is over priced for the amount of power you will gain.

I am with tonywenzel here though...

if this spacer kit does not provide power, but taking power away instead, that means all the plenums out there are doing the same thing????

cheers,

I didn't say that the Esprit spacer lost power, but that someone on this board had made a phenolic (sp?) spacer for our motor and when dynoed, lost power. I don't think you should jump to the conclusion that plenums or the Esprit spacer lose power based on that one test. The person did not give many details about his design or the conditions of his test. I'm just giving what information I have on it. I was seriously considering getting the Esprit spacer about 4 months ago. I had contacted Bulletproof Automotive and they gave me the email to a guy who had bought one. I emailed him and he said he did not buy it because his order got lost. So, I don't know what to think. But, in the end, I just didn't want to cut my motor mounts down.

When you make changes to the plenum its not always guaranteed that you're going to improve output even with more air flow. I would be really interested to see a test of the spacer though.

here's the thread about the guy who made the spacer. And some other babble about the Crawford not making power.

Zillinois, did you have that link bookmarked? I searched, spacer, pleneum spacer, espirit, espirit spacer, you name it, I could not generate hits.

You can always use eMachineShop.com to make your own spacer. Once you have the plenum mount traced and measured, you would simply need to input the data into their client. After that, they would likely do the machining on a water jet. Water jet time is relatively inexpensive. I bet you could easily get a lower-dollar prototype.

Before anyone gets carried away here, I talked to Doug Stewart at Crawford, when I first read about the Esprit. He told me they had thought of this approach when they were in the process of designing the solution to the problem with the front two cylinders. He told me the spacer idea didn't work out well, because it didn't even things out, it just raised the plenum. They also tried an angled spacer with out success. The only thing that worked, for them, was the modified plenum, we all know and love.

BTW, the Esprit does require shorter motor mounts to clear the hood.
