Default INJEN SES Straight Tips (no pics) Just impression!

OK! so I installed the exhaust Sat and ran the car for a couple of days and this is my impression of the sys.

My car is bone stock engine wise. the only change has been the exhaust.

1. the installation was great! easiest exhaust I have ever installed. They did a really good job with fittment and there are no clearance issues.

2. The quality of the sys and the bolts etc. is first rate. kinda seems horrible to stick it under the car.

3. Sound is not loud at all. I have no idea what the hell everyone is saying about the sound. Nice deep sound and is only loud at start and WOT. She is not a fart can!!!

4. I notice a more power above 4k rpm and less power 3k and below. this is kinda disappointing. I think not having power when cruising under 3k is a bad thing. I get stuck in stop and go traffic a lot and make quick lane changes from low rpms. I will need to shift more now because of this lose in power. I will see if this is real or just me being sensitive to the change. I do feel a dif. at higher rpms. she seems to have more get up 4k and up. which is what I expected.

5. crazy thing! my stock intake whistles!!!!! get that.

All in all, I think it was worth the $ and time.

Big thanks to Bryan Young at 350zonlinestore for getting me the exhaust in 4 days. just in time for the long week-end.

Normally when you put larger diameter exhaust tubing on a car, you will sacrifice some low end for top end. As for the loudness of the exhaust, the thing roars with test pipes.

With test pipes its much louder? I have the exhuast and I think the sound is great. I am considering test pipes. What will that do to my sound?

Ok, so I have a stupid question: what are the test pipes and where can i get them. I decided to get the Injen exhaust but I kinda want the loud and obnoxious sound of the test pipes that everyone is talking about.

If adding test pipes, will the car run lean. Thinking about ordering exhaust, already have intake. Should be fine with just exhaust, but what about test pipes?

I am by no means an expert, but I haven't heard about it running lean. Just that when u hit the fuel cut off, fire shoots out the back

Unhappy

I was one of the first 350Z's to receive the INJEN exhaust maybe 8-9 months ago, and we tried a set of test pipes with this exhaust system.

IMHO I highly recommend you don't run test pipes. Unless you like your exhaust really loud. It will resonate like no tommrow. If you do like a really loud exhaust then go for it, but I do not recommend it.

We also dynoed that combo and the power band changed.

Yuichi - did u have the straight tip or angle tip? You also said the power band changed, good or bad.

Nissan350ZTT - thanks for posting the pics!

uberfaybk - I think the last chart I saw said about 8-10 LBs lost. But I drove the car again and when u r runnig her she really doesn't stay below 3k much. It is just when u r crussing that u notice it. Ex. I notice it when in 6th gear crusing. it feels weird now to keep it in that gear. Feels like she is working too hard. I must say again that this may be me just getting used to the sound or something.

If the pipes are such a large diameter that a N/A car is losing torque in the low rpm range, adding test pipes will lower the back pressure even further, causing even more torque loss. Sounds like this diameter was more suited to the Forced Induction crowd.

8-10 lb*ft of torque doesn't sound like much at all... especially if it's only below 3k rpm.

will adding a pop-charger and aftermarket plenum make up for the reduced back pressure? (keep "stock" back pressure but just move more air)
