Default Exhaust question: Sound....

Not to beat a dead horse or anything, but need quick advice on a true dual exhaust setup....

Looking for a DEEP sounding exhaust that isn't TOO loud with test pipes.

Anyone have a good experience with their exhaust and want to post their results/ sound file in this thread?

Is Borla the best way to go? It seems the Injen SES is a little too loud with test pipes....

If you want a deep, just slightly louder than stock sound then go with Borla. If you want a shweeeeet, loud, screamin' like a rabid ***** sound then go with Injen.

(Can you tell I'm a little partial?) Hehehehe!!

I like loud and all...but there's a fine line between loud and TOO DAMN loud...I don't want cops to turn their heads. I'm too old for that sorta trouble.

I liked the injen sound clip that someone put up, but that was with stock cats (I think)...so I'm thinking that with test pipes (resonated mind you) Borla may be the way I have to go.

Sounds like the Injen is badass...just not sure if I'm badass engough to run em!

Thanks for the tip!

Well, if you don't want any undue attention... go with Borla true dual. Injen SES with test pipes will definitely turn heads.

Recommend you hear all the exhaust systems up front and personal. A "powerful" exhaust note is very subjective however the Stillen system sounds best to me.

I have the Injen SES with test pipes and it is extremely loud and deep. It definitely turns heads This system sounds almost V8 like deep.

V8 Deep is ok...as long as it isn't obvious that I'm running test pipes.

I used to have a 5.0 Stang with headers and dynomax mufflers...no cats, resonators, etc etc. It really wasn't all that loud, just deep. I can handle that.

Looks like I'm off to listen to some Stillen sound bites...

I wish I knew more people around here with Z's!!! There's no substitute for hearing it in person.

Unfortunately any exhaust you get will sound louder and more raspy with test pipes. I think that Injen would be the loudest.

Woo Hooo!!!! That was my 1000th post

What is wrong with the stock exhaust, and what kind of gain can be expected from the Borla?

I like the way the OEM system sounds, and from my experience, aftermarket exhaust gain next to nothing in power (unless you do intake and headers).........

Anybody have comments on the sound of Fujitsubo or RSR?

I'd like to keep my exhaust change Japanese, but like the good Dr I don't want to be breaking windows on the morning commute.

I see some guys are just changing the Y pipe for small gain and subtle sound change.

Default Don't be concerned with "true dual".....

The performance is no better whatsoever than a properly designed single pipe system. In fact, if you truly examine the physics of the gas flow, a "true dual" system can sometimes be worse. I went with Nismo based on real scientific principles, and am very happy with the look, fit/finish, and sound. Keep in mind that ANY system that truly flows a higher rate is going to be somewhat louder.

I've got the Fugi, sounds great, perfect fitment with Aerospace quality. Big diameter tubing and lighter than stock. It's a little quieter than the Nismo I hear. I have High Flow Cats and JIC Y-Pipe and it sounds mean but no drone. I will be installing Headers as soon as they come in, can't wait. At WOT it defineately talks to Ya.

Interesting.....

I have test pipes now on the stock exhaust and I don't like the sound at 3.5k rpms...very honda civic-like. I don't know if I can get rid of that with an aftermarket exhaust, but that's my goal...so I definitely need something deeper sounding...I'm an ex-stang guy, so I'm looking for that v8 gurgle.

At the same time, as mentioned above, I don't want to break windows either! I also don't want to scare my patients away or announce my presence to the world whenever I drive somewhere.

Stealthy but deep....

I'll check out that Fuji one...but it sounds like Borla might be the best bet still for me.

If you want the American V8 sound I think Borla is for you. Nismo or Fugu have the sports car/race car sound when you have the total high flow system (Headers, Cats, Y-pipe)

I've got High Flow Cats and the stock exhaust, but I cut out my resonator last weekend and replaced it with a straight pipe.

It sounds GOOD now!!! It sounds like the stock exhaust should have sounded like from the factory!

If you want to hear what the Borla sounds like, go to my thread on this. I did several videos that hopefully are still being hosted.

Here is the link to the thread:

Here's one of the car pulling away. Note that all of these were filmed prior to my ATI Procharger.
