Default Crawford Cats+Borla TD+DC SS Headers

Hey guys, right now I have DC Sports headers and a Borla true dual exhaust, I am about to get the Crawford cats. Since the only bottleneck in my exhaust is the cats, am I in for a big increase in power? Maybe 10 more ponies? Is anyone running this combo, How will it change the sound?

I have the Borla TD and DC ceramic headers also. I too am in the market for a set of hi-flo cats. I have heard nothing but great things about the crawford cats. I wish I could get them, but they don't have c.a.r.b. approval. Big deal come around smog time here in Cali. That gives me the choice of either RT or UR cats. I have heard of too many problems with the RT cats and I havn't heard about anyone running UR cats.

Slap on a plenum and that should help out the intake side of the airflow.

I have cats as my only mod--I noticed more power from 2500 RPM upward. Not a lot of power, but enough to say that the mod was worth it for me.

For what it's worth, Kinetix cats use Carsound cores, which I believe are also CARB certified.

However, it doesn't matter. To my knowledge, in California you cannot replace your cats with aftermarket cats. The *only* time you can do so is if your factory cats failed, and you can no longer purchase factory cats for some reason. Only then can you use aftermarket cats. (And those have to be CARB certified, of course.) In the Z, even if your cats have honestly failed, you still are required by law to replace them with OEM cats since oem cats are certainly still available for this car. So, *any* aftermarket cat will cause you to fail the smog check in the Z. (assuming you actually get caught)

Thanks for the tip about the Kinetix cats. I'll look into those. I hope I don't have any troube with my dc headers come around smog time. I can hardly see them when I'm looking for them. Hopefully they wont notice.

For those of you worried about passing smog with the Crawfords.. Dont worry about it.

I had my car smog tested with the Crawford HF cats and Nismo exhaust and it passed with flying colors. The smog tech even said my car sounded great.

Aren't the DC headers for the 350Z CARB certified? I honestly don't know. I had mine coated by Jet-Hot in the black color to make them look as stock as possible.

Yeah, the Crawford and Kinetix cats both look pretty stock. Simple and unlabelled. That certainly must help with the visual check. I've seen some other posts around here from numerous folks with high flow cats who've past the sniffer test. It's really only the visual you have to worry about.

That's music to my ears. That changes my vote to Crawford cats.
Thank you
