Default Tranny 2nd gear problem?

Fortunately, I have not had to have my tranny replaced...my car has a born-on-date of 4/04. Anyway, I seem to have a notch in second gear and only second gear. Doesn't matter if it's hot or cold. I can't tell if it's actually a grind or if this is normal. It's just not a very smooth shift. It doesn't cause me any problems and everything else works fine, but I wonder if it's the start of something bad? All of my other sports cars have been manuals, and maybe I just need to get used to this one, because it is definitely different.

I had my tranny replaced due to the 3rd gear grind. Now the new tranny has a very notchy 2nd gear almost like it grinds going into second but without the grinding sound. When it's cold you can feel it catching gear.

Thanks! So should I assume that this is normal? You described my issue perfectly.

That is what I love about the Z's transmission, the notchy feel!!! To me that feels awesome. Whats the mileage on your car? It will smooth out over time, but will always feel "notchy" (it is supposed to!)

On the other hand, if it GRINDS, get it tot he dealer. My car is on its 3rd transmission due to 2nd gear GRINDING. It has 17k miles.

I've got 4k miles. However, after reviewing many other posts, it seems as though the transmission is supposed to be smooth. The only "notchy" feeling I get is in second gear and all of the others are very smooth. Not to mention, that was the problem: I couldn't tell whether it was just notchy or if it is actual grinding. It seems to be a fine line and I was hoping that the other enthusiasts could help me come to a conclusion.
