Default Sevice Engine Soon

is this normal...i have about 7100 mi and just noticed it this morning. i have done no mods lately but i do have some mods on my car. i am hoping there is like a service mark around this mileage and this is just an warning lite to have the service done.

anyone chime in with your comments....thanks

I have 19K miles on my Z and have an AEM CAI and S.S. and have not experienced this situation.

Good luck

I don't think it is the valves. For that light to come on some sensor must have put out a voltage that was outside the acceptable range thus making the ECU show you that light. The dealer should be able to hook up a code scanner and find out what code the ECU threw.

I have a '03 350Z and I had that problem once very early on after purchasing the car. The dealer reset the ECU ( at the same time I was getting the 3500 mile oil change ) and said it was because the gas cap was not on tight enough. I pointed out to them that I had been driving the daily car for two weeks since I last got gas but they did not have any other explaination.

It has never happened to me again.

well here is what i did: on my way home from work i filled up again....about 4 gallons or so to a full tank. then when i got home i disconnected the battery as i said i would in my previous post to reset the ecu. i hooked the battery back up this morning and whalla....SES light gone.

i don't think it was the gas cap as i ran the car down to 3/4 of a tank even before the SES light came on. i checked my manual and there is a 7500 mile service...i am wondering if this was the cause. however, the nissan dealership said it was not normal...maybe they were just trying to get me in to make some money. i am sure it would have just been a simple reset for them on their scanner since i was able to reset the ecu the manual way.

also, this morning the car seemed to run better too....i even smoked a 330 i coming in to work

peace out all....thanks for the responses....rw out

Check Engine Soon light came on in my 2004 Coupe, Touring 6MT, 10,500 miles last week after idling for 10-15 minutes while I defrosted snow and ice from the exterior. It stayed on for 2 days, or about 4 start/stop engine cycles, then went off and has stayed off. The owner's manual calls if a Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) which should be checked out if it stays on. It recommends staying under 4,500 RPM, as it might be related to the emissions system.

Default service engine light

I have been having the problem off and on for the last year!! The dealer tells me the same thing -- that the gas cap is not on tight. I don't even think they know. Last time it happened it went off by itself . . . . Seems to be another problem with this car that can't be fixed.

You have to do more than just unhook the battery to reset the ECU. Run an internet search for "350Z ECU reset" and find out how to do it. I believe that on the TechnoSquare website they go over the procedure. It is one of those "Insert key...turn off...turn on..depress gas..etc"

Default service engine light

I found out that there is a recall on this issue by Nissan. It has to do with the crank position sensor which is causing the service engine soon light to come on. This may create a no start condition and/or cause the engine to stop running without any warning. Looks like i'm taking it in to have it replaced just to be sure. Nissan Recall # 03V455000

Road Warrior, the light coming on means you are suppose to take your car into the dealer so they can scan it and determine what caused it. It's not something you try and figure out how to get around. If you start having chest pains (it might be a heart attack) but it sounds like you would ignore it. Use the dealer and the warranty, knowledge is power. Ignorance is bliss. You are now in a state of bliss, I hope your car doesn't have a heart attack and die. If it does please don't bash Nissan

The mil light will come on for a couple of issues the first is if their is a fault with a sensor not reading properly the second is if their is a leak in evap system such as gas cap being loose. The light will not come off right away will take any between 400-800 mi of normal driving and cycling of the ignition before it understands that everything is good or it has to get reset by dealer also when that light comes on the ecu goes into a fail safe mode and the car feels like it has a lose of power or dependeing on the code thrown will not even drive.

this gas cap excuse is getting annoying. i bet nissan makes a manual for excuses to dump on its customers along with the service manual.

this gas cap thing is just the diahrea icing on crap cake nissan is selling. lol. sick i know.

the infamous SES light on my car has remained off btw...i have about 500 miles on it since i did the reset, another full tank of gas, and i had the oil changed at nissan too.

i know i could have taken the car in, but i don't like having to go to the dealer for anything....i figure if its something major the light will come back on and i will take the car in at that point. if i caused more harm by doing the reset myself oh well, everything is under warranty at this point.

look at all the TSB's that are out for the z...it would take you forever to fix them all...really sucks all the little things but i can live with most of them.
