Default will most 03 and 04 6MT trannies need replacement?

I just started noticing all the post about tranny replacements on this forum. I just bought an 03 track a couple of days ago and this is the first that i hear about this. Some of the stories that people are telling us are insane. 1200 miles and the z needs a new tranny. WTF? Is it likely that my z will also need a tranny replacement. Is tranny replacement the rule or the exception? Let me know...

Welcome to the site. If you do a search on "transmission replace" you will find plenty about this.

Here is one of the threads: https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....ission+replace

Mine was replaced. The new one is better, but somewhat "notchy" compared to other cars I have owned.

I wouldn't worry about it. Nissan seems determined to replace any that have problems.

I have a 2003 Track Model 350Z with 8600 or so miles on it. Unfortuately, i had to have my tranny replaced about two weeks ago. It took Nissan 4 months to actully service my car but now it feels better than ever. I just need to break it in now. How long does it take to break in a new tranny anyway? Any way, my story started out bad but now it's all good.

Had mine replaced. Youll know when you need a new one. It will start grinding.

My car would grind really hard going into third during agressive driving...everytime. Sometimes the grinding would cause me to miss shift...actully most the time that would happen. Don't get me wrong, i really don't drive my car hard often. I've been to the drags once completeing 5 succesful runs. After that my tranny started grinding. Drove it for 4 months before Nissan replaced it. Glad i had it done.

40k all good still. Just changed to synthetic gear oil in my tranny. When I emptied the tranny no debris on the plug and fluid looked perfect. car actually breaks them lose while rolling in first now
