Default Going to Dealer for Feathering. Got ?

I only have about 7800 miles n my '03, but it does have feathering. My problem is that it is not bad enough for me to really care about, but it will get worse. And my 2year window is up in a week. So I am taking it in.

My question is, if they decide to take the easy way out and just flip the tires, am I still covered down the road?? That is, it seems like they do not have an actual fix for this problem, so I am sure that my feathering will get worse as the mileage goes up. I'm just not sure if I should be too upset if they only rotate the tires and check the alignment now. I can live with that as long as I know that I can go back for a tire swap in the future (even though my two year warranty on this is up).

Any ideas??

That's a good question that I hve heard before but have never seen answered really. Why don't you call the dealer and ask what they say. Or better yet, call Nissan and ask them the company policy in this case.

I think I will call them before I go, that way I may be able to use some of what they tell me as I drop off the car. The dealer is the last place I want to try to get a straight answer.

Gonna go in with the facts from Nissan though and see how it goes.

The strange thing is that I didn't buy the car from these guys, and they never asked. They just gave me an appointment for Friday. The more I think about it, the more strange it seems. Kind of like somebody was robbing the place and had the real tech pinned under his foot while he was on the phone with me. We'll see how it goes. My first time to any dealer with my Z.

Make sure that you get as much info as you can in writing such as the reason it was brought in and what they did. Even if your warranty ends you can still argue that the problem was never fixed when you brought it up within the warranty period. There must be a paper trail of your complaint though.

They actually fixed it without me even asking. Well, they swapped the tires out anyway. I don't get the sense that Nissan has a fix for this.

But they scratched my rims really badly, so I feel like I should have just ket the original tires and avoided the dealership. Not to mention that fact that the pressure was 3 pounds different in both tires, and while cold, they higher one was like 38 lbs. I gotta believe that that is about the safe hot temperature. If I remember correctly, the sidewall says 40psi max. I am totally dismayed right now.

Gonna go out later and make sure they at least got the tires on the correct sides. They didn't put the rims back on the correct sides, so I have to believe that the tire pressure sensors are swapped now too. How the hell do you get to be a mechanic!?

Alienx,
I'd like to assume the Dealer aligned after installing your new rubber. Ask for a report of the final actual alignment. Even if it's after the fact, they should still have a record. You are entitled to it. The reason: take your car to a good independent shop and check/adjust if necessary...just for confirmation they did the alignment right. "Looking" at your car, even with a machine does not void any warranties.

Good advice. An d now that I have to deal with this scratched rim thing too, I want as much paperwork as I can get.

I can't even express how pissed I am now. And I have to rely on THEM to fix the problem they created. How twisted!
