My car is burning at least 1 1/2 qts. per 1000 miles. Had it at dealer, they did no tests and told me to document it myself!! That just doesnt seem right to me. Shouldnt they of atleast done a leakdown test? I think they are going to jerk my chain. Any feedback would help! Thanks

 

Hi, IÃÎ currently doing an oil consumption test with my dealership right now. These are the steps I took: 1) pay for an oil change by the dealership. 2) Let them know of your oil consumption. 3) Ask them to note in the work order. 4) make sure itÃÔ stated in the work order that you requested for an oil consumption test under warranty (free-of-charge). 5) Wait until everything is completed and check if the dealer has made and indications of measuring the oil via applying tamper-tape on oil inlets (i.e., dipstick drain bolt and oil filter. 6) If they have not, immediately go back to your service rep and ask why an oil consumption test has not been applied as requested.

Most likely they wonÃÕ tamper-tape your dip stick, so it may be a good idea to also document it yourself also day by day basis or week by week basis for your own record. Then theyÃÍl ask you to return after 1000 miles of driving, theyÃÍl measuring the oil level themselves, and when they measure it, make them write down the outcome on the same work order you got from the oil change 1000 miles ago. Make them check the oil level right in front of you so they canÃÕ BS you around. Make sure itÃÔ by the same service rep all the time. Then after the first 1000miles theyÃÍl ask you to come back after another 1000 miles, and repeat everything you did the first time. Å*eakdown tests I believe are performed after you and the dealer finish documenting 2-3 1000 mile oil check intervals. Then base on the ÅÍeakdown test results theyÃÍl decide if it qualifies for an engine replacement. If they refuse to do their part of the oil consumption test in regards of documenting, testing, and taking your seriously call Nissan of North America and complain about the situation. Good luck.

from another thread, i learned nissan considers 1 qt/1 k mi within normal limits.
i just took mine in friday for an oil consumption test, cuz my documentation shows a very high rate of consumption. i always doc date, mileage and amnt of oil added whenever i add oil.
