Default crankshaft oil leak issue

I have a friend who is having warranty work done on hi 350z engine because he was leaking oil from the crankshaft. The pulley seal died or something, it was pretty bad as you could see the pulley "wobble".

The car is bone stock and has never been modified, pulley is stock. No abnormal oil burning either. First time I hear anything like this, anyone ever heard of this? Or has a clue what could cause this?

From what I understand they are just going to replace just the crankshaft pulley seal (does not require internal work).
