Brought my car to the dealership last month to fix the rear axle clicking noise. But just 2 weeks ago, I can hear that clicking noise again and it's just so annoying as it got louder.

If it's the inside I don't believe we're on the same page. The clicking has already been found (in the TSB) to be originating from the axel.

the noise happens at all speeds. and it sounds like a tick tick noise, kind of like metal to metal rubbing. it is random depending on how smooth or rough the road is.

i tore apart the whole hatch area to see if i could get at it, but all the happened was the noise got louder and louder. any help would be appreciated. thanks.
That's crazy - I can't believe you tore up the rear to the track the sound. It was, I take it, fruitless?

It seems like there are multiple sources or "clicking-type" noises but we're talking of axel click specifically.

From my post in this thread: https://my350z.com/forum/maintenance-and-repair/165422-the-clicking-axel-is-back-yay.html

I had the axle clicking on my right rear axle, and took it into the dealership to get it fixed under warranty. It just so happens the dealership I go to has a performance division under the same name, where they specialize in Z cars. Anyhow, I watched the shop manager (all other staff was off that day) perform the fix on my axle. The process is VERY easy to do, assuming the following:

1) You can get the wheels off the car while it is lifted (loosening them while on the ground then jacking the car up would do).
2) You can get the center locknut off the axle - I think this is what would prevent most people from performing this themselves, as the nut is large and requires 177 ft-lb to tighten. An air gun is obviously the easiest route to get this thing off.

Once you have the axle bolts and the center locknut off, you just slide the axle out of the hub and apply the "Molykote M77" grease to the splines on the driveshaft flange. Then just bolt everything up and youre good to go. The TSB calls for the replacement of driveshaft side flange nuts, bolts and washers, and the cotter pin for the end of the driveshaft. You absolutely MUST replace the cotter pin, but I think one could get away with not replacing the driveshaft flange nuts, bolts and washers - Of course if you can get them, replace them, but in a pinch it is not necessary.

So, if the dealership does not budge, you might consider performing this fix yourself.

1. is the clicking audible all throughout the day?
2. everytime you acclerate and decelerate?
3. only at certain speeds?
4. present at both > and < directions?
5. audible when both windows are up and down?
6. are the TSB's only for the cars that exhibit the symptoms?
7. any vin#s the TSB only covers?

just trying to figure out what I have.

scenario:
i hear something only during the mornings, I first back out of my garage (don't hear any sound) and only hear it driving from my driveway and only during forward movement. It sounds like my tires are picking up small pebbles and throwing them up to my rear wheel wells for a second or two and i don't hear them anymore all throughout the day.

i've made sure the front of the house is all clean and it would still make the sound.

thanks

The sound you describe appears to be related to this problem, I have it as well. I'm going to Nissan next week. Regarding your questions (in my case):

1. is the clicking audible all throughout the day? It doesn't appear all the time, but mostly yes
2. everytime you acclerate and decelerate? Not all the time, but regularly. It seems to get worse after some time
3. only at certain speeds? I can hear it mainly in 1/2/3 gear when I come from a complete stop or release the throttle to a pretty low speed and hit it again with low rpm
4. present at both > and < directions? Yes, also audible in reverse
5. audible when both windows are up and down? Only windows down or your ears are in an extreme sensitive condition
6. are the TSB's only for the cars that exhibit the symptoms? I think the Nissan employees want to hear the noise themselves before ordering and replacing parts
7. any vin#s the TSB only covers? No

It will get worse over time, a few weeks ago it wasn't as bad for me as it is right now. Maybe because I know now what noise to pick up.

I just started hearing the clicking on mine, at first it sounded like was coming from the front but its definetly comming from the rearI just started hearing the clicking on mine, at first it sounded like it was coming from the front but its definitely coming from the rear. I plan on taking it in for this TSB but I’m concerned about my aftermarket exhaust and other mods.

I’m really leaning towards putting my stock parts back on. I’ve got the Borla TD; does this TSB involve removing the exhaust? I’m putting the OEM cats and plenum back in for sure.

Thanks
