Default Settled Orange Peel With NNA for $2K

I promise this is the last you'll hear from me regarding my 350Z's Orange Peel issue.

I wanted to thank all of you who contributed to my earlier posting about my Orange Peel issue and either replied or voted.

Although it took 2 Months to resolve, at the end of the day Nissan was extremely professional and really did care about my issue.

I just received via FedEx this afternoon a check from Nissan for $2,000.00 to resolve my dissatisfaction with my paint job/Orange Peel on my 350z.

It is VERY important to note that the payment by Nissan does not admit any fault, flaw or guilt--it was just a way for Nissan to keep the peace and move on.

I'll probably post the letter that I had to sign and/or the check should anyone really doubt me--however I swear it is true.

The payment can be used by me to get my own wet-sand and/or re-paint OR I can do absolutly nothing and just keep the money (and the Orange Peel). Should I elect to wet-sand or repaint then I will waive any future paint problem that I may encounter--since I would no longer have a factory paint job. If I elect to live with it then I only had to waive any future issues regarding strictly to Orange Peel--but if I have a problem down the road or if there is a warranty/recall issue I can participate.

Again thank you all for your assistance.

NOTE: DO NOT ASK ME WHO I SPOKE TO OR HOW I DID WHAT I DID (OTHER THAN WHAT IS ABOVE). WHILE I COULD TELL EVERYONE IF I WANTED TO (I AM NOT PROHIBITED FROM TALKING), I FEEL THAT MY SITUATION WAS UNIQUE AND I SPENT OVER 2 MONTHS RESOLVING THIS ISSUE. THE NNA PEOPLE THAT I WORKED WITH HAVE MANY OTHER TASKS AND DAY-TO-DAY ISSUES TO DEAL WITH... OUT OF RESPECT FOR THAT I WILL NOT PROVIDE WHO OR HOW I DID WHAT I DID... I WILL ONLY SAY THAT MANY NISSAN EXECUTIVES WERE AWARE OF MY CASE.

And for all of you who posted replies to "shut up" or said that I was going overboard--persistance pays off. I truly feel that if you belive you are right then you must stand for what you feel is true--the second you compromise or back down, you lose.

Again, thank you!

To be completly frank, I do NOT feel happy for you. I feel like you took advantage of the a situation, that orange peel is something EVERY car I have LOOKED AT has, including almost all 996 Carrea's this was a "defect" that was of a VISUAL nature that if it bothered you so much you could've declined the car. We all have it, none of us are getting are money back, or a refund, and all you did was take a negligable non-issue and make it some big thing. I never heard of Orange Peel, no one commented on it, and your obession with it, from my view, was strange. My .02,

If you really want to see it I guess I can, but I think there are some in one of my earlier posts.

I want to stay away from posting a ton of pictures because then I'll get the, "My car is worse than your car" crap and then people will be inquiring even more.

Bottom Line = Both myself, dealer and 3rd Party Paint Inspector (hired by Nissan) all agreed that paint was flawed... so it really doesn't matter what I think--but what that Paint Inspector thinks.

LA-Z... you're fine to speak your two cents.

I've addressed already in previous posts and others have too some of your statements.

We'll agree to disagree.

Sammy, without seeing the car in person it is impossible for me to judge the situation. It seems that you and the maker arrived at a mutually agreeable compromise. I have concerns for whether you squeezed unnecesary money and willingness to work with purchasers out of Nissan or whether you took an unfair hit in working out a compromise. Another conundrum. I hope the just and right outcome was reached. Enjoy the car! -Jim

Congratulations,

It sounds like you got good customer service, Nissan got a happy customer, and you can now enjoy your car knowing that you got a fair deal. I think that everyone wins.

Default What about me ?

I have hairs baked into my paint in 2 locations...what do you call that other than a sh*tty paint job. No matter how bad your orange peel is, there will always be somebody that has a worse paint job. I have a CS Touring, and even with the silver paint, I have LOADS of orange peel, visible from almost all lighting. Yeah, I would like them to do something about it, but because of situation like this, where you have taken advantage of the situation...that means the rest of us are screwed. Nissan IS NOT going to cut a check to all of the rest of us for $2k. What about my problematic Bose stereo system that sounds like trash...hmmm maybe I can get $2k for that ?

Yeah, I have hairs in my paint, does it get any worse than that ? I will take a sh*tpile of orange peel over hairs baked into my paint anyday...I think this is rediculous, and to be totally honest, you should have kept this info to yourself, as the rest of us (I htink I speak for everyone) DON'T want to hear about your windfall, when the rest of us are stuck with what we got. If I were you, I wouldn't post the letter or pictures of the check...not many people would care to see it.

How do you know you can't get your car's defects fixed or the issue resolved if you haven't tried? Have you raised the issues with Nissan? Legitimate defects should be paid for by Nissan. I don't see why that's so awful to bring up. I don't know how horrible the orange peel is on sammy's car, but having hairs baked into the paint surely is a defect. I don't think any Nissan rep. would argue about that.

Default Letter time...

I agree, me previous post was harsh, and I guess it's simply because EVERYONE has the same problem, and for Nissan to cover one its only fair that they do the same for all...will it happen...NO! This is a classic example of a first come first serve scenario, where the others in line end up with nothing, and only get accused of bandwaggoning ? AM I RIGHT ? I think so...

As far as my paint job goes, yes, I will be writing a letter to NNA this weekend, and speaking with my dealership soon to discuss my Bose issues, bumper problems, and paint issues. We will see what happens, but I hope that they are as willing to help me out with my issues, which I consider to be a little more serious than just orange peel...

If Nissan had to part with a few bucks to settle a case, you can bet the factory paint crew has been told to get the job done right.

I would think this has to be a benefit to future buyers (such as me).

Nice going.

It is fair that they just cover one. They cover the person that griped and did actual work towards being compensated for what he felt was a problem with his car.

You want compensation I suggest you work for it as well.

It isn't Nissan's job to go back to every customer that purchased a car a couple months down the road and check on satisfaction or problems. It is your job to go back to Nissan and let them know about your dissatisfation.

God bless America......Glad to see someone is satisfied and stood up fpr themselves.........Complaining and not taking any action is sad..............Consumers do have rights and obviously Nissan took the right steps to correct this situation! Bravo.........now what about the Blose?..........hmmmmmmmmm

My friends that live in Japan tell me that the customer inspection and quality demands of Americans make us "look like monkeys." The jingoistic temptations asides, all purchasers of Nissan/Infiniti products should not hesitiate to demand the highest fit and finish and production standards of the cars sold. You are paying for quality and have a right to receive it!
