I am now a member of the "oil burning club"
Well, Future Nissan in Roseville, Ca called and left me a message this morning. They reviewed my oil consumption and deem it as normal. Burning 9/10th's of a quart of oil ever 3,000 is normal per Nissan. I did not know that I was buying an oil consuming machine when I purchased the car.
I state good luck to all you who plan on keeping your car, you will need it. I will not own a car where the manufacturer states too bad/it is normal. It is not normal. I will be selling my car privately and of course there will be no recommendations by me for anyone to buy a Nissan product. Not worth it.
Buy Honda or Toyota. But good luck to the rest of you who chose to keep the oil burning machines!!

Hurry up Nissan and call me back!
Most likely a bad exhaust valve seal, but I cant wait for the entire consumption test I need something done NOW!

Update on my Z.
After constant calling to Nissan they approved a new motor!
No shrotblocks were available so they just replaced the whole thing. I'm leaving New Orleans today after working here for 2 weeks, so I'll get to drive it today.
So, dont let them win.

Christine, I think burning less than 1qt of oil in 3000mi is not unusual for a sports car. Regarding your comment about buying a Honda or Toyota, did you not notice that Nano indicated that his friend's S2000 burns 1qt every 1000mi? BMWs burning 1qt every 2000mi? Even my friend's Camry burns a quart every 3K. A quart every 3K can hardly be considered an oil burner. An old Triumph going through 1qt every 500mi, yes, that's something else. So spend the extra $1 every 3000mi & add the one quart of oil. I don't know about you, but doing that every now and then sure is a lot less "time and energy" than getting all riled up w/ corporate. I think your expectations are too high.
Does anyone know why our engines burn up oil so much? I myself have not had this problem but im looking for it very carefully since im using full synthetic amsoil. Ive put 3.5k on the oil and have just as much as day one within a 1/2 quart. For those of you burning oil did it just start all of a sudden or did it always burn some oil and just get worse?
i frequent bmw boards seeing as i have one. the bmw guys realized that mobil 1 0-30 wt is a very thin 30 weight and caused them to burn excessive amounts of oil. some of them found out the even the 10-40 wt would shear downt to a thirty wt quickly i think they got the info from bob the oil guy.com? i heard of guys switching brands and seeing the problem disseaper. just trying to help.
