Default wierd ticking noise when stopped

OK I did some searching around and couldnt find anything really relavent to my problem. (not that it actually IS a problem, thats what this post is about.)

When I park my car and get out, I notice a really loud ticking sound, like bomberman has visited the underside of my car. It quits after about an hour, and it has occured with every, single, vehicle I have ever owned. I always assumed it was normal....untill...my friend who also owns a lemans sunset touring Z asked me "what the hell is that clicking noise dude?" I told him, "every car does that." he proceeded to get me in his car, and hauled *** down the road with me. When we stopped the car his did not tick as mine did.

So WTF? something to be worried about? anybody know what it is? Am I just overly paranoid like I am about every single thing about my car?
