Nissan Oil Filter Part #
Just did my first oil change on my 350Z. Went by the dealership on friday and bought 2 filters and 2 Drain Plug washers. He handed me the filters and boy was I surprised
, that thing had to be the smallest filter I have ever had on a car.
The part # for the one the dealership sold me was #15208-65F00. The one I removed off my car was #15208-65F01, they both looked identical. But what is up with the different numbers?
Anyone Know?

15208-9E000, it's the bigger oil filter.
hmmm, funny, courtesyparts has it listed as 15208-VQ35DE

I agree. I brought my replacement filters back to the dealer once I looked at the box and it said it fit a Sentra.
I used one little filter from 1000 to 2500 then switched to the larger one last week. I feel more comfortable with the larger filter. It's the one that fit my 98 Maxima and my wife's 00 Quest.
I also use Mobil 1 in all of my vehicles.

When you state that "15208-9E000" is the bigger filter, I assume you mean longer. The diameter of the filter is the same, correct? Does the 15208-9E000 meet the same flow (volume) and pressure requirements as the smaller filter?
My concern is that, although filters may look identical externally, there is some performance difference because of internal differences.

The filter is just longer and internally it seems no different. O-ring, screens, flow holes, filtering media all appear the same.
Remember that Nissan changed the filters on the Maxima between 2000 to 2001 [ or 2001 to 2002; I can't rmemeber which] but the engine block hasn't changed, and it's the same as ours. It's a bigger displacement engine but now requires a smaller filter????!!!!; go figure.
Considering this thing takes 5 full quarts, where my 98 Maxima took about 4, I'm not comfortable with the little filter's ability to truly keep the oil as clean as it should be.
With the larger/longer filter installed for the past week, there has been no problem over 200+ miles.

Interesting point. I just went to the garage and re-checked the dip-stick.
The car has been sitting level for two days at 50 degrees farenheit. The oil level is right on the full mark and does not read low.
The larger filter doesn't seem to require a significantly greater quantity of oil above the 5 quarts with a filter change.
