I had a clicking sound come from my rear axils. It had the same symptoms. Got them replaced and 10,000 miles later it is doing it again.

Im not talking about the rear clicking, I am talking about the clutch making a popping sound when I enage the clutch.

Well your description isn't exactly a fountain of valuable clues.

Does the sound happen while you're pressing the clutch or holding it down?

Does it happen at any RPM, idle, revup, etc?

Does it "pop" once or repeatedly?

Loud metallic pop, clutch chatter, or dull thud, etc?

Are you sure it's coming from the clutch/transmission or from the clutch pedal?

If it's repeatable, take it to the dealer and make them figure it out.

I've had a similar problem since I bought my Z, but whenever I take it to the dealer, they tell me they can't get the car to replicate the problem.

I'll revive this thread since I'm having the same problem.

Sounds happens as the clutch is engaging

Happens at any RPM

It pops once.

It's a dull "pop" sound

Sounds like its coming from the clutch pedal below the dash

So I took it into the Nissan tech monkeys. They said it was "normal". It was late when I picked up my car so there was no one to talk with. But I find that answer unacceptable. I've never had a clutch that would make a popping sound when engaging. Also, these monkeys gave me a hard time when they replaced my driver side window motor (it would go up and back down) saying my aftermarket speakers were to blame. AND they installed the tweater pod incorrectly. So I'll have to fix that myself. Dealerships techs are useless. (no offense to anyone that may be a good tech here).

Is this when you engage the clutch in neutral or in gear?

For example, when you start the car, here's the sequence of events I'm imagining:

Car in neutral
Put clutch in
Turn key, engine starts
Let go of clutch pedal,
hear "pop" noise

If this is what you're talking about, it's just the clutch engaging normally. We have a noisy transmission and clutch.

Turn off the A/C... then if you listen closely, in neutral, with the clutch in (disengaged) you only hear the engine. When you let go of the clutch pedal (engaged) you hear the pop or click, then a whirring noise. Totally normal.

Well, I have this pop as well. It's coming from near my left foot inside the cabin , not from the engine bay.. So, it's not the transmission it's the clutch pedal assembly itself...

I'm having the identical issue with my '06 Z at 1,100 miles.

It only happens upon initial depressing of the clutch pedal, say the first 1/2" of travel. If you lightly use the ball of your foot, you can make it "pop" or "click" loudly off-and-on. This is different than the normal sound of the clutch engaging and disengaging. It seems most apparent before the car is warmed-up, but even afterward, the sound goes away put the initial "clicking" in the pedal can still be felt through my shoe. I'll probably take it in to Performance Nissan on Saturday for diagnosis.

Thanks for the post above with part #.

didn't think I'd find this problem in the 350z forums. My 05 G35 6MT has the exact same problem. It pops like a dent popping out of an aluminium can(dull sound though)

I had that in my 05 also, but it went away after awhile. It did come back occasionally though, but I could never get it checked out at a dealer because it would never come back after warming up.
