I'm having the same "problem" on my new '06 (350 Miles)... kinda pissed BUT it has happened on other cars I've owned ('04 Civic EX), I think it at least IN PART has to due to style of driving... I've never had a clutch changed prematurely (once total actually and car was at 120,000) on any of the four manual cars I've owned, but I find that I do probably ride the clutch a little more than some people perhaps..I dunno. It shouldn't be a problem that exists even if it is harmless.

As some noted above, the sound does seem most apparent when the car is cold. It was warm and windy here yesterday, and the noise didn't occur once. Odds are if I take it to the dealer, it won't happen by the time I get there.

Now that I know it's not a tranny issue, I wonder what's the real harm in leaving it alone? For argument's sake, if it cures itself after warmup, what are the possible problems in not addressing the clutch pedal assembly? Maybe I'll hold out for now and continue monitoring, since it's only been four days since the sound first started. Any insights?

I haven't gotten up in there, and it certainly doesn't occur enough yet for me to do so...but the sound and feel of the pop reminds me of the sound my Firebird's clutch return spring would make when it tried to pop out of the connecting loop.

Of couse, the clutch return spring broke every 10k miles in the Firebird.. and I don't think anything is about to break. It just feels like something is binding (like the connecting coil on a spring) and then popping free. Once popped free, it is unbound so you don't hear it again.

That is just my theory and it is only speculation. It could be anything. But, like the dealer, I'm not going to worry about it until it breaks or becomes a genuine issue. Because it is way too difficult for anyone, including the dealer, to diagnose yet.

Let's wait and see if Rick's $80 replacement part make a difference.

Thx for the update. Mine hasn't done it again since my last post. I think it may be a "first movement of the day" thing at worst. At least there is a post about a rememdy now should it reoccur or if others need the info.

Thanks!

anyone know what the actual cause of this noise is? It's annoying the hell out of me. I pretty much have the same problem as everyone else except the sound doesn't go away even after i've been driving it for hours. Is the only way to fix this to replace the pedal?

seems like replacing the whole clutch pedal assembly is the only thing that works thusfar. good luck getting the car to replicate it with your service dept.

Damn, I've got the noise myself now! I played around a little with it, seems to be the very top of the pedal action, within an inch depressed. It isn't every time I press it, but frequently. Guess I'll get a new pedal assy put in.

Seems as though nobody has a for sure solution to this problem??

I'd be willing to bet that your new assembly will start doing it all over again in due time. I mean they are both factory parts.

I've got this noise as well and yes, it's annoying because it's pretty loud and my car only has 150 miles on it.

I've actually ordered a new clutch pedal assembly in order to try to figure out what the problem ACTUALLY is. Maybe there could be a DIY fix that just isn't known as of yet.

In searching through other threads for snippits of clues, 3 that were of most interest to me were:

1. Clevis too tight?
2. Bolts holding the clutch pedal assembly had come loose
3. Mechanism dry, needs lube.

I'll check into each of these for sure.

If I'm successful, I'll certainly post the information.
