Default Z & G35 problems

Does anyone know if the G35 coupes are having similar problems with the tranny and tire issues as the Z? It's the same transmission, so it should have all of the same characteristics, right?

I'd like to get the Z or the G35 sometime in the next few months, but am leaning towards the Inifiniti since I haven't found anyone complaining about the tranny or tire issues on that car yet. If I wanted a car that had to be rebuilt in the first year I'd buy an old Mustang. $30,000+ is too much to spend for that to happen.

tranny issues? whatcha talkin bout? if you mean cold start grinds... alot of cars get that, maybe the G35 too, I hadnt heard of that till recently, and the Z has been out 3 months longer than the Coupe, maybe grind issues will come up soon, they should, its the same tranny.

as for tires, thats a different ball game, different tires, different wheel base, and Im guessing between all of that, the tire issue would be different.

Default Cold grind

Yes, the cold start grinding. My dad had the last model 300ZX and never experienced anything like that, which is why it was such a surprise to me. Other members have posted that their transmissions were replaced. That, I know, is not common to a lot of cars. Guess I'll have to wait and see.

Good point on the difference in wheelbase. I didn't think of that.

I wonder if the Bose problems I have read about on this page will appear in the G35 as well?

A 3rd --> 4th gear grind was/is pretty common w/ the last model 300ZX. And a common fix was to use to replace the tranny fluid w/ Redline MTL.

My "guess" is that the tranny in the 350 (and 300) needs to warm up. Otherwise, you will experience difficulty in shifting and in some cases, grinding. Tranny fluid is just like your engine oil in a sense that its viscosity changes as the temperature changes.

Hell, even my SE-R is a PITA to shift gears when cold and that tranny is far less stouter than the 350 (and 300).

Michael.

Maybe our cars are trying to tell us something...

1 - Tranny grinds when cold - PLEASE don't drive me when it is cold!!

2 - Headlights can fog up when wet (rain) - PLEASE don't drive me when it is raining

3 - Tire problem - PLEASE don't put many miles on me

Basically, the cars want a nice easy life of being driven on nice, warm, sunny days maybe once or twice a week...

What a bunch of crap. The Z is going to be my daily driver, not my toy, at least for the next couple of years. If it's not up to the task, maybe I'll find a car with some cajones to do real work.

Why is what I said a 'load of crap'? I was merely making light of some of the common problems that our cars have. I was (in no way) suggesting that you actually treat your car like that, because it is probably your daily driver. Personally, my Z is my toy car (I have other cars to drive on a regular basis) and was only purchased to 'play' with, but what you do with your Z (and anyone for that matter) is none of my business and I could really care less...

Default It's not you, it's me...

Sorry, Jeff. The remark was rhetorical, not directed at you. It was more of a shot as Nissan, if anyone. No hard feelings.

I had the cold grind with my 98 A4 as well. I live in upstate NY and as you can imagine it gets cold up here. I know some other cars have it especially C5's have it all the time.
