Oil dipstick - Halfway between L and H, how much lost?

Default Oil dipstick - Halfway between L and H, how much lost?

Last time I had an oil change was 1,200 miles ago and I just checked the oil dipstick today and it's reading about halfway between L and H. Can anyone tell me roughly how much oil I lost? I check right after the oil change and it was spot on at H. Also, is this something I should be concerned about?

When you last checked your oil was the engine fully heated up? did you let it sit for 10 mins? were you on flat ground?

The car was sitting in the same spot for almost a week. I started the car up for about 30seconds and moved it about 20ft. to park it in the garage so I can't say the engine was fully heated up, but I did let it sit again for about 15 min. before checking the oil. The car was on a very flat surface when the oil was checked.

How much oil do you think I lost if it's halfway between 'L' and 'H' and is this normal or a sign of an oil consumption problem if it's happening 1,200 miles after my last oil change?

Let the engine heat up before checking your oil. it DOES make a difference.

I'll do that to see if it works, but in the meantime, do you know roughly how much oil is lost if it's halfway between 'L' and 'H'? Is it something like 1/2 qt.?

guessing about 1/2-3/4 quart.

but with it being cold my guess is you're close to where it should be.

I'll run the car until it's warmed up tomorrow and check again.
