Urgent Octane Question
Hopefully this qualifies as the right section for this, apologies if not...
I drove to see the wifey in NJ tonight, in which it is state law that you can not pump your own gas. The gas also happens to be 30 to 50 cents cheaper per gallon than in NY so I always fill up when I head down.
I told the attendant fill it up premium please and the dumb **** puts in regular 87 instead of the 93.
I was already about 3/4ths full, with about 265 dte according to the trip computer. By the time I noticed he had put in about 5 gallons and the tank was all but full.
Outside of the knock, can I expect this to possibly cause any damage? Should I do anything to rectify the situation, or minimize any possible effects? Should I keep adding as much 93 as possible for the next few days ?
I don't mean to be paranoid but damn.. this is my baby we're talking about here. I wanna break that guy's jaw.

the manual says basically to dilute the bad gas with premium soon as possible, you should fill with premium and perhaps add a can of octane boost, than fill again when you get back down to half tank
if you can get to a marina with a gas can or two, get the 99.5 octane unleaded and throw that in there

thats why manufacturers have knock sensors now.. you won't hurt anything, morst cars that call for premium 91+ are actually tuned and will run with little to no ignition retard on 89 (mid-grade).
You can run 87 all the time if you don't mind a reduction in power and efficency

You will be fine as long as you are not FI.

Your basically running on CA 91 so you should be fine as we all use this CRAP. Just Keep mixing in 93 to keep your octane level up. 5Gal of 87 to 15gal 93 should be around 90 or 91 octane. I just would WOT it til you get some good gas just to be over cautious, either way your probably fine and the car didn't notice.
