Cyclical Drive Train Vibration?
I'm getting a very light pulsing or cyclical drivetrain vibration from 35-60 mph. I can push in the clutch, and I still have it. It isn't a big vibration, but you can feel it in the wheel. At around 50, it seems to be one second on, one second off. It is faster or slower depending on the speed.
Anybody have this? I figure it might be something like an imbalance in the drive shaft or axle, but I really have no idea.
I guess I'll have the dealer look at it when I take it in to have the alignment checked.

I have experienced that sensation also. I think it is probably the Driveshaft.
If Mine continues, I'm gonna get it checked. I've got 2400 miles on it.
You can see Maint. info in Section PR4 of the Factory Service Manual.
Here is some info.
REAR PROPELLER SHAFT PFP:37000
On-Vehicle Service ADS0002G
PROPELLER SHAFT VIBRATION
If vibration is present at high speed, inspect propeller shaft runout
first.
1. Measure propeller shaft runout at several points by rotating final
drive companion flange with hands.
Propeller shaft runout measuring points:
Unit: mm (in)
2. If runout still exceeds specifications, disconnect propeller shaft
at final drive companion flange; then rotate companion flange
90, 180, 270 degrees and reconnect propeller shaft.
3. Check runout again. If runout still exceeds specifications,
replace propeller shaft assembly.
APPEARANCE CHECKING
_ Inspect propeller shaft tube surface for dents or cracks. If damaged, replace propeller shaft assembly.
_ If damage such as cracks or peeling off sealing (joint between
yoke and tube) is found, replace propeller shaft with new one.
_ Check that the gap is between tube and yoke flange. If there is
no gap, replace propeller shaft.

Thanks for the info. I took it to the dealer, and they didn't experience it. It sometimes seems worse than others, but is still there.
I keep going back and forth in my mind as to what it is. I can't make up my mind if it is the drive shaft or the tires.
I need to get it back into the shop at some point.
Keep me updated if you find your problem. I'll post back if I do.

weird! I just experienced that today when I was showing my cousin the car. The vibration started from around 30-60. I'll repost if the problem continues. Please let me know any developments on this issue.
OMG!! I thought I was alone on this one. It is hard to take it in as I can't duplicate on a regular basis. I don't think it is the tires as it has happened with two different sets of tires for me.
I had not paid attention to the speed but have noticed it between 3000 and 4000 RPM's, it feels and sounds like a low rumble, I can hear it and also feel it on the stick shift. Usually it happens when I am decelarating with the car still in gear and it passes between 3000 and 4000 RPM's. The first time I took the tech out it didn't do it, I am going to try again tomorrow as they have the car replacing all fluids to Synthetic and I am putting my 17's back on until the feathering issue can be resolved before I waste a set of Toyo's.
I don;t think the driveshaft is out of round or imbalanced as I would think it would do it all of the time, it might have to do with more tranny problems

Mine is at lower RPMs than you describe. I can even get it to do it at 50 with the clutch in.
I keep meaning to get one of the other guys here in town with Zs to drive it or go for a ride with me, to see if they find it abnormal (or talk the dealer into letting me test drive a new car to see if it does it).

Can you get it to repeat with consistency? That is my problem, I will forget about it and all of the sudden it will do it and I can't really pin point the circumstances that it does it under, it is frustrating.

Mine is generally there all the time, just more obvious at some times. The reason I was thinking at one point it was tires was that it seemed for a bit to not be easily felt when it started getting warmer, but now I can still have it in the high 70s we've been having.
I really have no idea. I was thinking for awhile I was going crazy.

I mentioned the cyclical vibration, they said it was tire feathering. There's a whole big issue about it. Nissan has issued a TSB, but not a permanten fix. Some people want to threaten legal action, etc. We have all come to the conclusion that it's probably the springs (which also create the bound of the car). A few guys checked too see if the part #'s of the springs have changed, and they have! front springs have changed part numbers twice! No all they need to do is compare the old springs to the new ones to figure out the difference.
I'm not sure if the "vibration" you are describing is same sensation I am experiencing. I have a pulse in my stick shift (sounds erotic doesn't it). That aside, its like a thumping. I visualize it as a bad tooth on a gear. Haven't had the problem looked at though.
Phile,
It is not the tire issue, I had that and it is totally different.
350 Pilot,
Hi neighbor, the feeling is hard to describe to people, it sounds like a low rumble and slight increased vibration through the stick that lasts for a second.

It's the feathering on my Z right?
Well the dealer was not much help but I was with a guy that does alot of racing and has a drag racing RX7 (in the 9's 1/4 mile) and he said the vibration is from the transmission and it is normal, some cars have more than others but that it was OK. Take it for what it is worth. That is for the noise I described to him, which again was a short rumble/vibration on decel as I went through 3000 rpms or so, not always the same loudness and not always happened.
