Default oil change and warranty?

I've read that some dealership would void warranty if proper oil change have not been preformed, ie stamp in manual of date of oil change. Now what if you change your own oil?? how can they tell if you don't have a stamp cause you did it yourself?

Had my oil changed today at the dealership. When they brought the car around I mentioned updating my log the guy laughed. He said there was no place on there for them to sign it, just fill it in when you get home..BUT FOR GODS SAKE SAVE THE RECEIPT!!!!!!

I don't change my oil myself primarily to save money. I do it for the following:

1. I don't like other people messing with my car. (just means more scratches and marks)

2. I like to know the job is done right.

3. I can do it anytime I have an extra 20 minutes and not schedule or wait at a dealership.

4. Save money since I use Mobile 1 synthetic.

Two days ago my dad had his oil changed at the dealership that he bought his truck from. As he was driving home the engine started acting up. He pulled over and checked the oil.....there was none. They just drained it and sent him on his way. They sent over a guy with some oil. He was like no way you tow it back to the dealership. They are now haggling over replacing the engine.

Was there no oil meter or idiot light?

Man! You gotta know something is up if there is a light on the dash or a dead needle. I saw one Honda turn off the oil light with no oil in it and that was only for 1 minute max.

If this story is true then thereshould be no haggle involved. They should at the very least strip the motor, clean it and replace all the bearings and polish the crank and cams. That is the minimum.

The best case is a brand new crate motor from the factory. so I guess there could be haggling in there b'tween the two of those...

True story. Not sure about the lights. My dad is 70 so maybe his eyes aren't what they used to be but the delaership wants to do nothing more than give him an extended warranty. Which is nice until something goes wrong when you are in B.F.E. I say in this case you make the customer happy. I would have second thoughs for sure taking my vehicle there for service or buying from that place.

Not sure what an oil meter unless you are talking about the oil pressure which I don't think I have ever focused on after having my oil changed.
