Default Gas?

Hey guys how much are you guys spending on gas say a week. Also do you ever put lower Octane gas in to save money. Just wondering because I'm getting ready to buy my Z in may when i graduate. Damn college towns, poor car would just get torn up by all the idiots here.

I use 93 octane. any lower and you might get detonation. bad for the car. do the math, the difference is 10 cents, 20miles to the gallon, 12000 miles a year, that's 600 gallons of gas. 10cent difference, thats 60$ a year. not gonna mess with 60$ a year(specially when Im alady spending 900 in gas... 900 or 960, whats the difference?)

as for how often, I get a week or 2 to a tank, depends how low I let it run and how much driving I do. Im getting like 20.4MPG on some pretty agressive driving.

No offense dude...but...I think you're on the crackpipe with the gas thing. I love the Z as much as anyone else here, maybe more (since I don't have mine yet) but you drive a street legal Nissan, not a track beast Ferrari. My daily driver for a year and some change was a 2001 Porsche, which I fed 91 octane the entire time and never saw a problem with.

I'm not going to argue engine quality with you...I'm going to tell you hands down that Porsche makes higher quality engines than Nissan. I hardly know anyone or any gas stations in my area that keep 93 on tap in their cars or in pumps.

You're overdoing it...I'd say 91 should be tops unless it's special racing fuel. Then again, if it's only an extra $60 per year...

*shrug*

Ares is from georgia, 93 octane is like $1.50 at every gas station, I'd hardly call that overdoing it.

I'd say use the highest octane pump gas, unless you are short on cash. In which case you'd probably be better off driving a civic or focus they get great mileage.

*edit* I'm not harshing on civics or the focus at all. I own a focus and it is damn good at getting groceries and taking the dogs to the vet.

yeah you must be from california I guess? 93 is what we got, we have 87, 89 and 93. 10cent difference between each, and its about 1.50 right now(very expensive around here at this price, we had it around a 1 for a little while)

91 is fine too tho, but 89 is not right, and quality of engine doesnt matter. compression ratio does, and the Z is 10.3:1 which is pretty high. donno what porsche is using. I know the RSX-S has 11:1, and S2000 is probably around there, we dont have the RSX-R cause its like 12 or 13 to 1, and we dont have 100octane pump gas like they do in japan.

edit your from neworleans, thats wierd that you cant find 93.

I believe the manual says "91" min. 91 is the best we can do in Cali.

I am 'from' New Orleans, Ares. But I go to SCAD so I spent most of my time in Savannah, which isn't too far from you :-)

The compression ratio on the 2000 Boxster S (daily driver for a while) engine is 11.0:1 (higher than 350Z); The ratio on the 2002 911 twin-turbo I sometimes drive is 9.4:1 (lower)

and you dont put 91 or 93(whichever is available to you) into the car? I hope so. it would be kinda stupid to pinch pennies on the gas you put into a 50000$ car. even gas in a 30000$ car doesnt make sense.

hope that 60$ helps you out then. kinda wierd that you can spend 50grand on a car, but putting 10cents extra in your gas is too much. your probably the kinda guy that waits till 4000 miles to get an oil change too.
