I had a similar problem with my 03. It turns out that I have a short in the ribbon cable behind the 3 climate control *****. Have you installed anything into the dash behind them? The cable was all dinged up and I am in the process of finding another one.

lift up the panel around the shift **** (the one that has the 3 climate control ***** on it) and jiggle the white cable that goes from the 3 ***** to a white/gray box further back. If is goes on and off, that's probably your problem however there are many other potential causes (loose fuse, a short somewhere else etc).

Good luck.

The same thing is happening to me. I sometimes turn it to the off position and the ac still remains on. Or sometimes it just starts blowing warm air for no reason. Do any of you guys know how much a replacement for this cable would be. I know that it is the cable because i move it around and it starts working normally, but I get tired and frustrated when I have to do this occasionally.

You can't just get the cable. You have to get the entire box (at least if you order it from your dealer).

Your best (cheapest) bet is to get it out of a salvaged Z. This is what I did (for $60.00). It is $321.00 new from Nissan.

Mine just started doing this a week or so ago, I am looking for a way to stiffen the cable a bit so it wont bounce on the bumps. I may also pull the AC box to see if the back plugs are well seated.
