Default Help...Feels like fuel is cutting off - Slip light comes on

Lately, my 03 has developed a wierd problem...when driving at 3-5000 rpms it will all of a sudden shut down, not kill the motor...just feels like it jerks the way it would if you hit the brakes and the rpms drop.

When it does that, the SLIP light comes on and stays on. I know this isnt the greatest description of the problem, and I havent had it checked for codes but I was hoping for some ideas.

Feels like the fuel cuts off for a second to me.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Did you change your wheels recently? the slip function comes on when it senses the front and back wheels spinning at different rates. If you have staggered wheels that could do it. Maybe your tires are bald on the back and cause a higher rpm differential between the front and back wheels? Does it still do this with the TCS off?

I was thinking the same thing. Three years ago, a body shop mounted my rears on the front and vice versa. When I drove away, the slip light came on and the car wouldn't idle above 2,000 rpm.

I moved the wheels back to their proper position and the car worked fine.

Mike (was a scary situation when it first happened)

No, not the wheels...I always turn off the TCS when I start the car, but the light does come on and stay on till I turn it off after.

It just died on the way to lunch, really feels like the fuel is shutting off for some reason.

There has to be a few different things that make the SLIP light go on...

I would bring it to the dealer to have it checked out. Are you still under warranty? Sounds like a computer problem.

I am still under warranty, but I have a ****load of bolt ons and dont wanna go the dealer route...someone must have had something similar happen.

I just need clues so i can start the process of elimination.

I had the same problem..when the slip light goes on it automatically kills power to prevent you from spinning out(traction control). I changed my back tires and this fixed the problem. Bald tires will cause this problem...either that, or really crappy tires w/ no traction

What kind of bolt ons do you have? Most shouldn't void any warrenty. When you go to internals, then you might have issues, but they'd never know. Also, for example, they won't deny warranty on suspension if all you've modified is your engine. Take it to the dealer, it won't hurt to try.

I had the same thing happen. It shut me down in 1st. dealer pulled the code and it came up as the throttle body. Dealer said he's seen it a few times. Maybe this will help you. good luck.
