Default 06 tire feathering..yep I have it

Yep, I have it and I hear it.

I have 21k miles so far....brought the call back in November of 05. Anyone else have the 06 feathering issue. Went to dealership and some crack-smoke tech with a mullet hairstyle stated he couldn't hear it or DUPLICATE it...calling nissan hq. and going to another stealership this week before the damn thing warranty expires.

I've had my Z since 1/06 and tires show no abnormal signs at all.

sorry to hear about your luck!!!!

welcome to the family!!!!!

In my opinion, the feathering has become normal wear for the car. If your Z does not feather, then thats ABNORMAL!!!

At 21k miles I dont think Nissan is going to be able or should I say willing to do anything for you.

Dont get too pissed cause the car is too great of a car to lose over something like this. If you can, get them to give you new fronts. If they dont, then use this as an excuse to get aftermarkets, rims and tires.

Get a good alignment, total .01 toe in, on front combined and get better rubber. The stock potenzas suck (which is all nissan would give you anyway).

After all of that, just make sure you rotate the fronts at least every 3-4 months to get max wear out of them. And re-align at the same time also.

good luck

If they have not been rotated by 19k, I would say it's normal wear for a sports car. The stock tires suck with their straight blocks, so would be noisy on just about any car at this point.

You can't rotate the tires on our z.... else the arrow on the tires would be going the opposite direction.

Nissan director of service stated they will replace the 2 fronts for free. He got down and felt the uneven treads wear.

Fyi, I had the first year 03..I know how it felted like back then.

You can rotate the tires, just not as easily as in the traditional sense.

Pop them off the rim, flip inside out and switch sides. Done.

Now you are wearing the old outside of the tire as the inside on the opposite side, evening the treadwear out. Simple and not that costly. I have a shop around town here that does it for 30 bucks for me. well worth that price 2-3 times a year to max out the life of my tires.

even easier would be to buy sport tires that arent directional. there are plenty of them out there that are really good quality but arent directional. then to rotate just simply flop sides. easier yet and free cause you can do that yourself.

How much tread is left on the tires. You are only supposed to get 16k out of stock tires from what i hear.

So with tire feathering .... I'm confuse is it the tires Nissan put on the Z's? What exactly is causing this to happen?

I just got back from the dealership, and they attribute the vibration I'm feeling steering to the right on the highway to tire cupping.

The crazy thing is, I only have 5,300 miles on the car! I just bought it in April! Is something wrong? I didn't figure it would happen this quickly. They said alignment was fine (although they only checked it by seeing if it pulled while test-driving it).

They said the only option is to replace the tire (yeah, just the front-right), which they quoted me $340 to do..

Any suggestions anyone?

Thanks.

You should always make sure your alignment is in spec. There is no excuse anymore for tire feathering IMO. Try to prove it's a vehicle flaw... like if you get an alignment, then through normal driving, your vehicle comes out of alignment after 1k miles, that would be a vehicle flaw.

Simply having tire feathering is not enough info to determine whether the fault is with the car or with the owner.
