Question Which Oil Filter Wrench is Best?

The technician who changed my oil & filter the first time used a large Channel-Lock type wrench made for oil filters. And he still had difficulty removing it, but he said in the future it should come off easier. I found a similar wrench at Sears. Is it the best? I have a tool box drawer full of oil filter wrenches, but nothing for that punny(sp) Nissan filter. I have not found a metal strap type wrench small enough for the itty-bitty filter. All suggestions welcome!

I have always just used my hands. You can get it plenty tight by hand and then you will always be able to remove it easily.

I had friend use a "speed-lube" place that tightened the filter down so much that no filter wrench would take it off. He tried the channel-lock type and ended up puncturing the filter with it! It did seem to work the best of all of them though.

Courtesy Nissan has a nice socket style filter wrench, it worked like a champ for me:

I like the socket style best. I don't like the bands.

If you don't get it too tight, though, you can often remove with your hand.

Thanks for the repies!

I looked at 4 different auto parts stores, and none had a socket small enough for the Nissan filter. I'll have to give Courtesy a call.

I did find the Moble 1 filter for the '02 Maxima though. Is it the same as for the 350Z? Their catalogue only went to '02.
