Default Car won't start

My Z has 400 miles on the clock and has intermittently refused to fire up since I got it. Have tried both keys and it seems to be more to do with the wiring or something in the starter motor. Dashboard lights up and sometimes the engine starts to fire then quits.
Has anyone else experienced my problem? If the car won't go it's basically an expensive pile of scrap metal. Never had thsi happen in a whole bunch of Hondas, MAzda rotaries or even Mitsubishis.

why dont you bring it to the dealer? they give you a warrenty for a reason. there could be any number of problems, if its firing and then stalling, it might be serious, if its not even turning over, it must be a wiring problem somewhere.

either way, unless its something super simple like your steering wheel is against the lock, or your not putting in the clutch to start, I dont think anyone here can diagnose it over the net.

I too have had that problem occasionally. I took it to the dealer and they said they couldn't find anything wrong. It has only done that to me twice. This is my sixth Nissan and all have either been Z's or 240SX's and none have done that. Oh well, as long as it doesn't become a problem I am cool with it.

Default Engine fires but does not run.

My 350Z has 55000 miles on it. Occasionally, it fails to start. A failed start is described as follows: the motor fires, the RPM zooms to around 1500, and then the rpm continues to fall to zero. A normal start consists of the motor firing, RPM zooming to 1700-2000 and then settling down to 650 as it warms up. A way around the “failed start in progress” is to add gas by depressing the accelerator as soon as the RPM starts falling from a low initial “zoom” and then falls too fast toward idle. No other problems with the engine or car. Has anybody else experienced this?

I don't have a solution to your problem but wow you brought back a thread from 2003! Haha.
