Mine had carbon buildup on it and not oil

It is really a bad idea to open the drive by wire chambers manually, you can damage the sensor or throw off the tolerances. for those of you that have gotten away with it consider yourself lucky but I wouldn't try my luck again. You should really have the ignition in the run position and have someone step on the accelerator in order to do this properly and avoid spraying directly into the chamber just in case you move the particles back into the intake and they go into the engine. We charge $64.00 for this service but usually around 30,000 miles or more with a fuel injection service.

I spoke with the techs and service advisers here in Northern California and I was instructed that it is OK to move the throttle plate manually and that it is the way they clean also. The only thing to keep in mind is that once the plate is moved, the re-learn procedures must be performed.

Also, I've cleaned a few of them using the method in my video and never had one go bad...

Will adding a bottle of Techron every 3k miles or so help keep the TB clean--
& help us avoid having to dig in to clean it??? I'm a DIYourselfer, but, when-
ever I can simplify things, I do!

No, it'll clean some parts of your fuel injection system, not your intake.

when I installed my plenum spacer myself, I only disconnected the battery, but never did the re learn process, is disconnecting the battery the same thing? That was nearly 10K miles ago, is it too late to do the re-learn process?

If you don't have a check engine light then you're probably fine. I think in the service manual it says any time the wire is unplugged from the TB the relearn needs to be (or maybe it's "should be") done.

ancient bump, but I'm about to try cleaning mine
Throttle Response seems pretty sluggish and I'm at 66,000 miles.
I figure it can't hurt.

Where is the best place to pick up the TB cleaner?

Thanks.

Is it necessary to replace the gasket?

Not necessary (IMO) but inspect it for sure and see if it looks okay (not dry rotting or fitting improperly).

I took the intake hose off and just saturated the butterfly valve and inside the TB with Deep Creep and let her soak for a bit. The car is running smooth as silk today. (You can see my other recent threads about my stalling issue and now its gone).

The 350z is a little different but close...nice video thanks.

The gasket look like new so I left it alone.

Now how do you know if the throttle body is dirty or just bad?

Shouldn't have to worry about that as long as you don't turn the key on when it's disconnected. And actually i've accidently turned my key on while disconnected and it still didn't cause any issues.

Should you do that kinda maintenance at a certain amount of miles, or only when you notice a decrease in performance? THANKS!

i would assume once a year should be fine. All depends on how much you drive your car.
