Exclamation Brake Job by Dealer?!?!

Hi everyone, this is my first time posting on here so go easy on me... aiite... i took my car in to the Nissan Dealer in san diego (Mossy) for an oil change and warranty work and they call me later and says that my front brakes are done for. I am at 33346 miles, but I got the pads and rotor changed at arond 17k miles at goodyear. now he is telling me that i need to do a complete front brake job which will run me at $497!!! he said that when i took it to goodyear they threw away the "hardware"? so i need the rotors, pads, and hardware!

I was just wondering if you guys think that is worth it or this guy is full of S**T is there something as an hardware in brake? Any help ASAP is fully appreciated!! Thanks in advance!

Ya you could need front rotors and pads after 20,000km's. Depends on how you've been driving it.

You can check them out yourself as it's not hard at all to do. There's awsome DIY's on this site with detailed pics on how to do it.

If you do need them done do them yourself for about $200.
You'll need rotors, pads, and some brake lube.

I'm not sure as to the "hardware" quote. I do know that sometimes shops include a "hardware" fee for any misc bolts, washers, etc... that come up as being needed during the job but a brake job is pretty straight forward.

Labor charge is usually around $207.88 with standard "Dealer Labor Pricing"...

I give a discount on labor to my customers... as well as parts...

Front Pads & Rotors: $196.50 + Tax = $212.71

My labor rate = $162

Total out the door using all Factory parts: $374.71

I like the OEM rotors but not the pads: too much dust. Suggest that you consider ceramic pads.

Brembos have a firmer feel on the pedal. The average driver or someone like me on the wrong side of 50 would rarely use its advantages of fade resistance with repeated hard use.
I just like to know it is there and I like the wow factor.
I lucked out with some lightly used rotors for 50 bux, all four and take off pads for 20.
Far cry from ~1600.00

Just had mine front rotors/pads done today and this is almost spot on. $180 for labor $230 for parts, 10% discount coupon in the mail = $360 for fronts.

Yeah, A LOT more - Infiniti dealer quoted me $500/side for Brembo rotors only front, $1000 for 2 rotors? No thanks. The exact same rotors can be had as low as $700-800 for all 4 corners, and that is assuming your stick with the exact OEM spec rotors. I see no reason to. Stop Tech would be good, as are others. That dealer pricing was almost as "funny" as the $1100 for an OEM flywheel!

I purchased my clutch slave cyl from www.mynismo.com and several other items that would have cost me a fortune at the dealer, thanks for the good prices, good service!

If you use the OE Brembo Rotors it is $$$$$$$$$$$

We have the STOP TECH Slotted One Piece Brembo Rotors which are MUCH Less expensive... It is more along the lines of the non-brembo rotors... the pricing for parts is all on www.mynismo.com
