2006 350 Z knock /ping
Bought my new Z in July and about a month later started getting an annoying knock/ping on acceleration at about 2000to2500 rpm. Dealer has replaced anti knock sensor and the ecm to no avail. I am extremely frustrated and if I can't get it fixed I am considering getting rid of the car.

i don't blame you. Looks like you got one of the bad apples. I bought a brand new Mazda in May and the dealers refused to look into a noise in the instrument panel. One of them even charged me for bringing the car in. i sold the car with 3000 miles on it, losing only sales tax and fees.

i got my '06 in december and noticed this problem a few months ago. got about 15k on the clock now, and doesnt seem to be getting any worse. no oil consumption either. sounded like it was coming from the tranny but could never tell. either way i figure if it was bad enough it would be covered on warranty. is that wrong to assume? is anything actually broken? i've read a few posts about this but nobody seems to have a solution. did nissan alter anything for 06 that would cause it now and not in an 03-05?
and im not totally lazy, i checked for loose/rattling peices on the underbody and engine, but nothing found.

I always use premium gas, and have got it from several different sources, and still am getting the annoying ping. My dealer is giving me this bogus line about bad gas in washington state where I'm at. My dealer gives me a case of "bad gas".

i had two new toyotas with engine pings during acceleration and the dealer blamed it on the aftermarket bosch spark plugs. They replaced the plugs with oem plugs and still could not get rid of the pinging. Sold those cars also. Bad gas my a$$.

i have the same thing. dealer knows about the problem, my car is undergoing an oil consumption test now, looks like 3 qts every 1000 miles im burning. hopefully a new engine will be in the mail for me. they attributing the pinging to oil consumption or whatever may be causing it.

even if you're putting premium gas in it, you might try somewhere else. i've noticed that 7-11 gas along with a couple other places make my engine knock in that rpm range too.
stick to major oil companies' gas stations (Exxon-Mobil, Chevron, etc) and you're usually fine. even QuikTrip, if you have them. i've found them to always have good quality fuel.
and if you're putting regular or mid-grade fuel in the car, well...i'm not even going to say it...

I think mine does it too, but for some reason I thought its the axle clicking. Im getting a consumption test done right now, so well see what happens. Im burning about 1quart every 1k miles. That better be enough for new engine!!!

My '05 has a "knocking Sound" coming from under the intake manifold, sounds like a sticky valve. Been doing it since new. Dealer diagnosed it as a "noisy" fuel damper assembly, part is on order.....

Both our z's ping
Wife has an 06 enthsiast and i have an 06 GT. They both ping in the range you mentioned when the temps are above 68 degrees or so.
Mine pings worse than hers. Yeah, it really pisses me off. The 07 engine has been redesigned for many reasons... one of which is pinging.
The 07's will have dual knock-sensors and they have redesigned the coolant flow through the engine for more uniform temperature control.... both to help reduce pinging.
By saying that, they are admitting that pinging has been a problem!
Lucky us

I had an 04 and 06 350z. The 06 had oil consumption and received and new motor and I can tell you that all 3 motors made the pinging sound. It frustrates me when i have people in the car and I want to just roll through a light in 2nd gear and get on it. It pings at low rpm (2000) if you give it about 50% throttle or more.
