Alright fella's...brought the Z in to complain about this grinding problem.

They ordered a new tranny for me. I just hope she drives the same, good as new.

2 thumbs-up to Atlantic Nissan In West Islip, NY....Hassle-free service, and nice people over there.

So, my new box has been in for a week. So far, so good. Tighter than the old box, more notchy. I have to double clutch sometimes. No grind. The clutch on the new setup feels completely different. Easier to press yet more springy. Also engages faster. The car caught rubber through the first 3 gears before, and through 4th now. Also 5th is a MUCH shorter throw and a much faster shift. I hope the notchyness goes away over the next thousand or so miles. The car is definatly noticibly quicker. I must have had an amount of slip before that I did not notice, or the clutch simply hooks up better than the old one. The car feels new again after 67K miles.

YOU ARE STILL COVERED BY WARRANTY! Tranny falls under drivetrain warranty which is 5yrs/60K miles from in service date of the car. Even 03 Zs still covered. Mine ends Sept 2007 Since my orginal inservice date of the car was Sept 2002.

Read your Z Booklet

So someone like me that has an '03 Touring with 68,000 has no chance on getting the tranny replaced free or cheap? If this was a known problem then why was there not a recall on this problem...

Mine grinds sometimes in 3rd and 5th... I thought it was a normal thing because my Spec-V had the so called 3rd gear crunch... It doesn't do it all the time... seems mostly when its cold and the car has not warmed up yet.. 3rd will grind anytime I am on it hard and shifting fast...

Help?
